Teen pregnency
It was just a typical Wednesday, just like many others, besides the fact that I had a doctor’s appointment at the health department at 1:00. Going to the doctor is not my favorite thing to do at all, but I had to go because I needed to get on a birth control. Sitting in the doctor’s room waiting for the lady to come in and talk to me with my best friend Helen who has always been there for me when I need her, joking, laughing, and talking about what if I was pregnant. We talked about how I would tell my parents and my other family members, how all my friends would react. The Next thing I knew the nurse walked in and asked me to take a urine test to make sure that I was not pregnant. She walks me back to the little restroom and gave me my cup and then I did my business. I walked out and she walked me back to the room to wait with Helen again. At this point I started to think. I start thinking that I had missed my menstrual cycle and that there was a possible chance that I could be pregnant. Wow I started to panic. I looked at Helen and said, “Oh my freaking goodness I think I’m pregnant now that I think about it.” Helen rolled her eyes. She said, “Cassandra you’re stupid.” I smiled and said, “Thanks I know. I’m you friend aren’t I?” We both laughed. Then we heard a knock on the door and the lady walked in and said, “Cassandra?” I looked at her and say, “Yeah?” She smiled at me and says, “Your test results came back positive, congratulations.” I Turn and smiled and say,” Thanks.” But what I was really thinking in my head was CONGRATULATIONS? Really I’m only sixteen this is the biggest mistake of my life oh my god I’m so stupid, what was I thinking? Helen looked at me like Gosh darn it. Right now I want to hit you in the head with a baseball bat! Then the lady hands me three pamphlets: abortion, adoption, and having a healthy pregnancy. She told me I didn’t have to make any decisions right away but do you know what you plan on doing?” I didn’t even know what to say at that point. I was in so much shock! Then she said, “Never mind honey. You don’t have to answer that. But do you know when your last menstrual cycle was so I can give you an estimated due date?” I looked at her then I look at the calendar, then looked back at her and said, “March 16th or somewhere around that week.” She pulled out this little wheel looking thing and played with it for a minute and then says, “December 22nd around there.” Then I began to cry. I didn’t know what else to do or to say
My like is over . . . !
