Becoming a Police Officer

Listening to the radio as the dispatcher is calling you to a scene where someone has been murdered.Your heart is racing as you turn on you lights and siren it’s a code 3 call.To become a police officer it takes alot of hard work and dedication. From the risks you face everyday to the different tasks you have to do.There are so many different colleges you can go to for criminal justice and other classes you need. Well let’s start off with the risks you make as a police officer.


The Dangers
There are a lot of risks you take to be a police officer. The first risks is heat stroke, depending on where your police department is located you might be faced with heat stroke. The reason being is that when you wear all that gear it can get hot really quick. The second risks you take is responding to code 3 calls. Code 3 calls are when you are using your lights and sirens. That is one of the serious calls you can get. The third is having biohazard/sun exposure, being a cop has some major effects to it by being exposed to the sun and  other hazards. (“ILEA: Home”)


Background and requirements
To become a police officer you can have anywhere from a high school diploma to a college degree. If you want to attend college one of the top colleges is michigan state university.  You should also take classes like criminal justice and others like it. The requirements are having good problem solving and judgement. Another requirement is to have capacity for compassion and empathy.Then you just have to go to a police academy. Salary and description
As a police officer you could make anywhere from $43,606-$61,795 depending on the department you chose to work for(“Police Officer Salary | Indeed.com”). Police officers are also called ‘law enforcers’ because they enforce laws. Another thing you probably did not know about police officers is that they protect people and property. While officers are in squad cars they patrol areas assigned, respond to calls, and make arrest.When an officer pull over a person and gives them a ticket that is called writing a citation.Police officers occasionally have to testify in court .(“Website”).


In conclusion it takes three things to become a police officer, those three things are education,skill,and compassion.Trying to become a police officer is a lot of hard work but if you put in the effort you will be good. With the information you just learned what are you going to do with it?
