My name is Elizabeth Hopkins I was born in 1596. London,

England is where I came from. My husband Stephen and I decided

to come to America on the Mayflower in 1620. We brought our

three kids: Constance, Giles, and Damaris and our two servants:

Edward Doty and Unknow. Our family was staying permanently

because Stephen wanted land and thinks that our lives will be

improved. The skills that would help me when we move to America are knitting, weaving, and, cooking.

We had to talk to the merchants before we could go. My

husband knew what to pack because he has been to America

before. We got to the ship by horses and carriage. I have never

been on a big boat. On the way to the docks we were all very

nervous and thinking in our minds ‘‘is this the right choice’’?

I was inside the ship for most of the rough voyage. Our

family spent most of the time on the Tween Decks. The hardest

and the most surprising part of the voyage was giving birth to a

baby boy named Oceanus meaning ocean. Oceanus was the first and only baby born on the ship. Most of the voyage was rough and it did not help that I get seasick. This voyage was not an easy voyage but I survived.

When I saw land I was overjoyed and so were others. I

hope that everyone survives and that we all work together to build

a nice community. Once the land was claimed I felt like I was

finally home. Sadly Oceanus died a little bit after we settled in he

died because he was too small. Our leader was pretty much

friends with all of us and made sure that we had somewhere to

sleep and that we started to grow crops. I had four more kids.

I died on February forth 1639, 19 years after we settled here

in America.
