How Gun Violence a Toll on America
As you many of you may know gun violence causes many deaths. The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms. There is too much violence and misery in America because of gun violence. I think we should be less lenient with guns. There are more benefits to having more gun control laws than having less gun control laws.
Many deaths could have been avoided if we had stricter gun laws. In fact, according to the article, Does the United States Need Gun Control Reform,“A man in Tuscan massacred many people using a gun” (Infobase Learning). If we had stricter gun laws the man would never have had the gun. Also most Americans agree with my opinion. For instance according to Jeremy Eagles’ poll on gun control in the Wall Street Journal, “52% of people think we need stricter gun laws and only 10% think they should be less strict” (Eagles). As you can see more half of our fellow Americans think we need stricter laws. Only 10% of Americans oppose my view. Should you care about what a little bit of people think or what lots of people think? Since this is democracy I think we should agree with majority of the vote. If gun violence is not a problem then why does more than half of the population of America want stricter gun laws? That proves that we need stricter gun laws.
Although there are some laws for guns they do not always work and therefore need to be stricter. People should have a limit to the amount of bullets they can own. They would only need a lot if they're trying to kill. Also they should not have access to machine guns and assault rifles. If you’re only trying to protect yourself then you would only need a shotgun or handgun.
Guns are supposed to be used for protection. In reality according to the article, Does the United States need gun control reform,“people won’t always use guns to protect but to harm” (Infobase Learning). So I believe there should be law that states unless you’re an officer adults shouldn’t be allowed to bring guns to places with lots of children or government officials. If 2 people get mad at each other decide to have a shoot out innocent kids or important people could get caught in the crossfire. You won’t need to protect yourself if there are only kids around or government officials because they won’t try to harm or hurt you and you won’t use it to harm people.
In conclusion,we need stricter guns to prevent death. Too many of our fellow Americans are dying. Although some people are responsible with their firearms and actually use it for self defense, Some people use guns in manner of hatred and stupidity. How long will it be before gun violence takes huge impact on our country? How long will it take for gun violence to affect your family? We shouldn't wait for something like that to happen we should have stricter laws so it won’t happen. If you're tired of turning on the news everyday and hearing about people getting shot then you should take a stand to promote stricter gun laws. Think about you friends and family how would you feel if they were hurt or threatened by gun violence because of little to no gun laws. As you now know those are consequences of not having enough gun control laws.
