Helpful or Hurtful Inventions?
The new 20th century. Bigger and better in every new invention. The catch? Are these new inventions helpful or hurtful to our society and how the will affect people, not only today, but also in the future. Some of the new inventions include smart phones, social media, and television. I believe these inventions are both helpful; communication across the world, and hurtful; addictive sites and easier ways of bullying.

First of all, some new inventions, for example cell phones, computers, and social media, have helped to create a new form of communication. With these things people across the world can connect in ways never possible before. Family and friends have several ways of associating in ways almost as close as face to face contact. These “big” inventions can help you to text, call, video chat, and more to interact with people across the world.

Although these new inventions may be a help to some I believe they also has a few hurtful components to them. One of these hurtful fragments is addictive sites. A new form of connecting and sharing life events is social media sites, to include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Vine, etc. These sites are an intriguing way to share new life events with friends and family, but can be addicting to many people. Once addicted to these sites procrastination may take place and many jobs may not get done. This can lead to more than just homework not being done, but important work for a job that can affect more than just yourself by not being finished.

Addictive sites are a large problem in the new technological world, but also new inventions that have brought upon the ease of bullying. New social media sites have brought the ease of giving anonymous comments that can hurt a person’s self-esteem. Even without having anonymous comments, texting and calling have given the simplicity of not having the face to face contact. This may make someone feel invincible from being caught or punished. This is a big problem in new inventions, with suicide rates skyrocketing.

So as you can see I believe new inventions are both helpful and hurtful in the best and worst ways. Being able to communicate across the world with friends and family, an exquisite invention. Bullying and addictive sites, a harmful and hurtful “glitch” in new inventions. I also believe that the inventions are not the entire problems and that the people have a play in it too. So as people move on and advance themselves in time, the inventions will continue to grow with them.
