The LIberation of Auschwitz
On January 27, 1945 the German led concentration camp, Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet troops.
The prisoners were simply let out and had to find their way back home as they were all celebrating.
Most of the prisoners are suffering from starvation or disease, and when liberated they would die from eating to much.
Auschwitz is the largest camp established by the Germans where at least 1.1 million people were killed.
Prisoners who looked like they were not useful were sent to gas chambers, but were told they were going to take a shower.
Zyklon B, is a poisonous gas that was used in the chambers made from hydrogen cyanide crystals, that was first manufactured as a strong disinfectant and for pest control.
This shows how life in Aushwitz was. Purely harsh begging at 4:30 a.m. for roll call. Then they would carry on with their twelve hour work day.
Simply, sleeping was hard to come by in Auschwitz. The prisoners would be put in cells only 1.5m² making it impossible to do anything but stand.
Now the ones that made it through the torture can do more than stand. They can say they survived the Holocaust.
