Mental health :A growing concern in today's world

Mental health is becoming an increasingly serious issue in today's world. However, we often notice that when we talk about mental health in society, people tend to take it lightly. We’ve all heard people dismissing it, saying things like, "What’s the big deal about mental health? It’s not a serious issue." When someone says, "I am feeling depressed" or "I think I am going through depression," people often make jokes about it. They act as if it’s nothing to worry about. But then, when that person becomes mentally disturbed due to depression, people start mocking them. They say things like, "Look, they’re losing it" or "They've gone crazy."

Have we ever wondered why they went crazy? What caused it? It’s important to understand that people don’t just go mad without a reason. They’ve likely faced a lot of struggles in their lives, which brought them to this point. When that person was alone, when they needed someone to understand them, perhaps everyone around them just moved on without offering help. When they needed to share their feelings, there was no one around to listen or understand.

In our society, many of us have high expectations from others, or others have expectations from us. When we fail to meet these expectations, especially from close family or friends, it can lead to depression. We feel like we’ve let them down. Mental stress, especially among the youth, has become a common issue. Students who go away from home to study often face immense pressure from their parents and teachers. They are expected to do well, and when they don’t, they start questioning their own worth. This pressure often leads to self-doubt and, in extreme cases, even suicide. After such tragedies, people still blame the young person, saying things like, "There was no reason for them to commit suicide." But no one stops to consider that their failure to meet expectations caused deep emotional distress. It wasn’t just about the result, but the emotional burden they carried.

If only society could embrace these young people for their efforts instead of focusing solely on the outcome. The need to validate a person’s hard work, rather than criticize them for failing, could make a huge difference.

We also often see people talking to themselves, and others label them as "crazy." But no one considers that they may not have anyone else to talk to or anyone who truly understands them. Today, people are quick to trust others, but when that trust is broken, it can lead to emotional devastation. Our society needs to change its outlook. Instead of mocking people who are mentally struggling, we need to make an effort to understand them.

Finally, to anyone going through depression, all I can say is that life, just like a coin, has two sides. There will be good times and bad times. Life is full of ups and downs. But we should not let others’ words or judgements affect us. People will always talk, no matter what you do. It’s better to focus on your own happiness. Let go of those who need to leave; they will find their reasons. Those who need to stay will stay, and what is meant to be will stay with you. As for the results, don't be disheartened if things don’t go as planned. Keep trying, because society will criticize you when you fail, but it will be there to support you when you succeed. And even if the results don’t come, remember that your efforts were not in vain. You gained valuable experience along the way.

Be happy, because life is only lived once
