Blobfish are animals that people have been wondering about for ages. They are thought of as one of the ugliest animals in the world and some people don’t even believe they are real. However, they are not made up, even if they look like it. They are found in the waters of Australia and New Zealand. When people think of blobfish, they imagine a glob of gelatinous flesh with a droopy smile. But according the The Online Scuba Magazine, “At their native depth, it is believed the blobfish has a more ‘normal’ appearance.” The water pressure that is released when they come to the surface makes them droop and look as silly as they do. As they swim, their mouths are open and they snack on small crustaceans.

Nobody knows much about how many blobfish there really are, seeing as they live very deep in the ocean, but some scientists think that they could be close to extinction. They are sometimes caught in fishers’ nets, and after being released of the intense water pressure they are used to, they will most likely die. Blobfish usually dwell about 3,000 feet below the surface of the sea. No matter how long blobfish live, they will always be a mystery to humans!
