The scene opens with a picture of two girls on their graduation day of high school on a dresser. Shifting to the left, we graze over a laptop, a stack of text books, an almost empty pizza box and various open sketch books, most of them depicting the same boy, some having him more grown up than others. Then we see a sloppily put together bed, with ALICE sleeping in it. She’s drooling into her pillow, hair a mess, with a small smile on her face.
We pan out to see the entirety of the small apartment. The ticking of a clock and ALICE’s even breathing is all that can be heard. It is very peaceful. A door opens quickly and quietly, but with a squeak from another room. Muttering and things being shifted around can heard from another room.
      MOLLY
Where is it? I could have sworn… maybe Alice knows?
   …
Should I wake her?
Nothing is heard for a moment. Then the door in the bedroom slams open.
      ALICE
   Gah!
ALICE shoots upright in her bed, grabs the closest thing to her and holds it out defensively, squinting, not seeing who entered the room.
      MOLLY
   Honey, I’m home!
ALICE rolls her eyes at MOLLY, now annoyed that she had been woken from her sleep. MOLLY just chuckles at her roommate, and puts her hands up in mock surrender.
      MOLLY
Oh no, not a pillow! Anything but that!
Confusion crosses ALICE’s face, then she looks down and sees that she is holding her pillow as a weapon. Molly smirks, enjoying tormenting her friend.
      MOLLY
I’m sure criminals will be terrified when they hear
about you and your terrifying pillow.
ALICE glares at her friend and lifts the pillow back up and throws it. MOLLY watches as it hits the door 3 feet away from her.
      MOLLY
   You missed.
MOLLY cracks up as ALICE turns away from her, crossing her arms.
      ALICE
Is there a reason you woke me up,
ALICE squints at the watch on her wrist.
      ALICE (CON’T)
Two hours before I needed to?
MOLLY opens her mouth, as if to tease her more, but then she remembers why she woke her friend up.
      MOLLY
   Oh-my-gosh! I can’t find my Language Arts paper! I
don’t know where it is! Help me find it!
   ALICE
Again? A junior in college and you still can’t keep
track of your papers. Maybe I should just let you
suffer.
      MOLLY
   What! No! Please help me!
      ALICE
   Fine.
ALICE gets out of bed fully dressed, walks out the door, into the kitchen/living room/dining room of the apartment with MOLLY following, checking under random notebook and other things. ALICE walks directly to the table and grabs a folder on the top of the table.
      ALICE (CON’T)
   That was so hard.
      MOLLY
Heh heh. Oops? Sorry. You can go back to bed.
      ALICE
There’s no point. I’m already awake.
      MOLLY
Sorry again. Do you want to walk me to class, or are
you officially a vampire now?
   ALICE
Fine. Let me put my shoes on.
   MOLLY
You want to take a shower or something? Run a
brush through your hair?
   ALICE
I’m too lazy.
   MOLLY
What if you’re supposed to meet your true love today?
What if he doesn’t realize you’re the one because
you were a mess, passes you by and you both die
lonely?

   ALICE
If my ‘true love’ is out there, he should be able to
realize its me even though I’m a mess.
Fine! If it bothers you that much, I’ll brush my hair.
Happy?
   Molly
How do you write such good romance stories if you
don’t even believe in true love?
   ALICE
It’s easy, follow the cliché and mix it up a bit to
make it feel new, and don’t be ashamed to make
things awkward like in real life.
This better for you?
   MOLLY
Defiantly.
They walk out, and we see them strolling across the campus from a distance. It’s a large open one, and its fall, with leaves falling off the trees.
      ALICE
Why are we walking to your class? Aren’t you late?
      MOLLY
If you define late as 4 hours until class, then yes.
      ALICE
Four hours? You woke me up four hours early for
your class? Are you kidding me?
Come on.
   MOLLY
Where are you leading me?
   ALICE
Your buying me hot chocolate for waking me up so early.
      MOLLY
You know, normally you’re not too upset to wake
up unless…
      ALICE
   Unless?
      MOLLY
Unless you dreamed about Him. You did, didn’t you?!?
      ALICE
   What of it?!?...
Yeah. I did dream about him. First time in a year.
      MOLLY
That’s good, isn’t it? That you saw your dream guy
again?
   ALICE
Why did I even tell you about him? Listen, they’re just
dreams. Yes, it would be nice if he was real, but he’s not.
He’s an idea. Not my boyfriend.

We see a door hit a bell and a busboy cleaning tables of the small café looks up and sees the girls walk in. He has messy sandy brown hair and green eyes, and pale skin. He freeze in the middle of wiping down the table, and stares at the girls bug-eyed as they chat and walk to the counter.
      MOLLY
What if he is real though?
      ALICE
He’s not. He’s just a reoccurring character in my dreams.
       THE COUNTER GUY
   What would you like?
      ALICE
   One small hot chocolate please.
(To MOLLY) You’re buying, don’t forget.
MOLLY begins to dig in her bag for her wallet, While THE COUNTER GUY begins to make a hot chocolate. BUSBOY snaps out of his shock and begins to walk over to the girls.
      MOLLY
Yeah, yeah. I don’t want anything thanks. Why are you
a writer and I’m not? You’re barely creative.
      ALICE
Because, I write my ideas down and keep track of
them. You do not.
   MOLLY
Here it –
MOLLY pulls her wallet from the bag and looks up to see BUSBOY.
   -Is.
MOLLY tilts her head to the side, her mouth now making a perfect “o”. She watches as BUSBOY taps ALICE’s shoulder.
   BUSBOY
Excuse me.
ALICE turns around to see BUSBOY. She takes him in once calmly, then doubles takes, her eyes lingering on his hair and eyes. Alarm is evident on her face as she takes a step back.
      BUSBOY (Con’t)
   You’re… you’re real?
ALICE stare at him in shock for a full minute, trying to think of a rational explanation for this. One strikes her and looks at MOLLY suspiciously.
      ALICE
Are you trying to prank me or something?
      MOLLY
No! You dragged me here remember?
ALICE blinks at her friend,  then looks back at BUSBOY. He’s taking her in, finally seeing her clearly for the first time. ALICE attempts to take another cautious step back, but is stopped when he quickly grabs her hand.
      BUSBOY
Please don’t. I’ve wanted to meet you for years. That
is, if it is you. My name’s Nick Simon. What’s yours?
ALICE regards NICK carefully, now thinking he could be a really obsessed stalker. MOLLY had no such thoughts.
      MOLLY
I’m Molly, she’s Alice. Nice to meet you.
ALICE glares at MOLLY briefly but turns her attention to the guy in front of her. She puts her feet in a defensive position, Not positive she wouldn’t have to fight him off.

      NICK
   Alice. What a pretty name.
     THE COUNTER GUY
Here’s your hot chocolate. That will be one fifty.
MOLLY shushed him and handed him the money, not taking her eyes off of what was developing in front of her.
      ALICE
Okay, I don’t know what you’re thinking, but-
      NICK
You know what I’m thinking. I know you recognize
me too, otherwise you would be beating the crap
out me for grabbing your hand right now. The first
time I dreamt about you, I was 8, and we fought
ninjas. When we beat them all, I was grossed out
to find out you were a girl. You crossed your arms
and declared that girls don’t have cooties and that
I would have died without you. Then you stormed
out of the room.
I saw you again and again, both of us growing up
As time went on. You’re the girl of my dreams
And I’m pretty certain I’m the guy of yours.
ALICE stares at him open mouthed.
      ALICE
   That’s… exactly how it went…
      MOLLY
   Daww!
ALICE and NICK both slowly turn to look at MOLLY. MOLLY awkwardly smiles at them, then pretends to check her watch.
Well, look at the time, I’ve got to go. Bye Alice, bye
Nick, nice to meet you!
MOLLY rushed out of the building with a big smile on her face. ALICE and NICK stared at MOLLY’s retreating back until a thought occurred to ALICE.
      ALICE
Wait, how long had you been planning that speech?
   NICK
Um… since I was 12.
He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
      ALICE
Wait! I can’t just believe this! There’s no way we
were dreaming of each other since we were
eight! There’s just no way! It’s impossible! I won’t
believe it!
   NICK
Easy there. It appears it is possible, because here
we are. It could also be a coincidence. I am not
going let the girl who looks like someone I’ve
dreamed about for years leave without taking her
on a date first.
   ALICE
A date? Are you asking me out?
   NICK
Yes, yes I am.
   ALICE
Well… okay. We’ll go on a study date. Give me your
phone so I can give you my number.
NICK does so and she taps her number in. Then she hands the phone back to NICK. Then she walks to the door and pauses before pushing it open.
      ALICE(Con’t)
Oh and NO funny business. I’m not sure you got the
right impression, but I’m no pushover.
ALICE leaves with the bells twinking behind her. NICK stares at the door with a wistful smile on his face.
      NICK
   I know.
THE COUNTER GUY leans into view.
     THE COUNTER GUY
I tried using ‘You’re the girl of my dreams’ as a
pickup line once. She slapped me.
   NICK
Dude, shut up.
NICK walks back to his rag on the table and continues cleaning his table. We cut to out side and watch leaves swirl around in the air, with Alice walking away in the background.
              THE END
