Ballers
Drew opened his eyes to his bedroom and looked at the clock next to him. 8:08. Drew jumped up, he was going to be late! He went to the bathroom and got ready. He went downstairs into the kitchen and saw a note from his mom, who had already left for work.
Good luck today, Drew! I will try to be there.
Drew smiled. It was Friday, which is also game day for the Santa Cruz High School Warriors. Even though Drew was a freshman, he was the best player on the team and was the best freshman in the country.
Drew walked to school where he saw his best friend and and teammate Jeremy. As the point guard, Jeremy’s main job was to pass the ball. The school day was boring for Drew. He mainly daydreamed about the game. He thought that school wasn’t important because he was going to be in the NBA later. After school Drew immediately ran to the locker room where he changed into his jersey and went and shot around in the second gym. The jv game was happening in the main gym right now.
The referee threw the ball in the air and the game was on! Drew ran back on defense because the other team won the tip. The Warriors started out playing a zone. Drew, a forward went to the block waiting for the rebound. Richard Blach the best shooter on the other team took a long shot from the outside. Drew jumped up in the air, but so did the other teams center. Drew got the rebound but when he landed he felt a sharp pain in his knee. He lay on the floor yelling. The medical staff immediately carted him off .
In the hospital room, the doctor told Drew some disturbing news.
“We’re not sure until we get an MRI, but I think its a torn ACL.”
Drew couldn’t believe it. His coach came into the room to talk to Drew about school. He realized that basketball could end anytime but he needed to focus on his studies more.
