that first moment
You placed another log in the bonfire and sat back down. The stars had come out and the others were fast asleep in their lawn chairs. You looked at me when “The Scientist” by Coldplay came on. “This is my favorite song” you said. “I love it too” I replied. We looked up at the stars as the chorus picked up and the tempo increased, like my beating heart. I, being young and bold, swung my feet onto the arm of your chair. I felt you looking at me but I still looked at the stars. It was the first time we connected. We were so pure, so new. When the song ended you started playing your guitar and good god you were awful, but you were real. A shooting star appeared in the sky and you told me to make a wish. Do you want to know what I wished for? Happiness. Few months pass and you’re out of my life. I guess you weren’t my happiness. Did you know that I cannot listen to Coldplay without thinking of you? I get shivers and I feel my stomach in my throat. It f***ing sucks because Coldplay is one of my favorite bands.
