Blizzards in New York
Whispering winds and frantic snowflakes swirled in unpredictable patterns as my crimson red leather boots stumbled in colorless snow. A stygian black Pea coat loosely clung to my body while brutal, trembling gusts of air inflated the clothing repeatedly. There were no cabs in the frozen city so I was left stranded in a community park frosted by the harsh whistling winds. My feet were weakly leading me towards a coffee shop only a few meters away from me. The cafe’ had large glass windows plastered in its burgundy stone brick walls and a chestnut door, beckoning before me with a plastic waving sign on its frozen handle.
It was a matter of time till my boots tripped upon frozen asphalt scattered beneath snow. I forced my legs to move on top of the preserved road, but as I continued my brave journey an interrupting beep pondered in my head without a warning. I sharply turned to my right and my eyes squinted sourly towards a roaring 2012 Ford F-150 waiting impatiently at my toes. The truck was smothered in a darkened sepia tone and proudly stood on its black tires shoved in piles of flurries. The truck’s appearance dazed me for only a few seconds before I continued to walk across the road until my anxious, tingling fingers grasped the cafe’s cold frosty handle, pulling lightly, but swiftly in seconds.
Brewed cocoa beans instantly filled my nostrils whilst I walked up to a mahogany wooden counter placed in the far right corner of the small restaurant. The dim orange lights dispersed around the room soothingly tanned the polished oak floors beneath me and also a brunette boy -who conducted the cash register- while he gave me a sheepish grin in seconds. “Welcome to Katie's Cafe. How may I serve you?” I didn’t reply to the young teenage boy. How could I? My lips were already chapped by the spine tingling snow, and my teeth were mindlessly quivering in sync to the beat of my racing heart. If I answered too quickly most likely I would’ve turned into a glistening crystal statue right here in this very spot for all eyes to see.
Instead I looked up towards the towering menus to find something that would calm my nerves before suddenly deciding that hot chocolate would be the beverage that could tame my shivers. I sat in a bronze leather booth near a large transparent window so I had an amazing view of New York's towering buildings covered with snow. The chocolate smoothly slithered down my throat, soothing it immediately. “Next time, I’m calling a cab,” I chuckled to myself and continued to adore the blizzard chilling the see through mirror.
