Delusional
I’ve been here for hours. My senses went numb after the third coffee. The smell of strong caffeinated beverages wafts from the counter to the pluff chair which sits in my dank corner, secluded from the majority. Snow falls in small clouds of powder to a ground already covered in frozen precipitation. The cold from outside contrasted with the inner warmth radiating from the fire burning in the hearth to the right. In my extreme comfort I almost forgot why I’ve been waiting in this hipster heaven for so long. Almost, but not quite. I began to think she wasn’t coming today, which made my heart sink. The thought of catching a glimpse of Her helped me through every week of my dreary existence. Just as my spirits plummeted the jingle from the store door immediately lifted me back up. She walked in with a bounce in her step. Her lightly waved hair was covered with speckles of snow, which disintegrated into water as the heat hit Her. Her nose resembled an adorable Roodolf, the cold taking its effect on even the most perfect like Her. She took after the child-like creature of Snow White with Her long dark curls and skin as pale as the ground outside. The friend she was with paled in comparison, but she did something to make Her laugh, so I was grateful. She threw her head back, laughter escaping Her mouth in musical spirals captivating me like a thrilling movie. My addiction began with Her mouth. I watched from the dark secluded corner I resided in. The way she lifted the cup to Her lips, delicately sipping the hot liquid, entranced me to no return. The way she licked the residue away with a rosy red tongue took me to whole different place… a darker place, a place it was hard to come back from. The way she pushed Her hair from her face made me desperately wish those fingers were mine pushing Her hair back. Sometimes she came in with different men on Her Sunday coffee excursions. It never seemed romantic, but that didn’t stop the jealousy to seep into my pores and dig its way into my soul. My mind would imagine each one of their nasty hands stroking, petting, groping my woman and it made me insane. Insanity coupled with jealousy is a dangerous thing, and unfortunately uncontrollable. I could see myself slitting each one of those men’s throats, and enjoying every savory second. But, nevertheless, I knew that would upset Her, and I’d never want to upset Her. So I held back, restraining my animalistic urges for Her sake. For months I’d come here to see Her. We had never spoken, but I knew, I could feel the connection we had. Electricity seemed to fill the space between us like a lightning bolt, strong and unattainable. As she sat there, writing on her pad, I imagined the life we would have together, one free of anything except love and joy. I knew she would love me, she had to! There was no other way, I was sure. Her friend had left leaving her alone. As she got up to leave I mustered up the courage with the thought that Her love would match mine or even excede. I followed her out of the café and was met by the frigid air of the unknown, yet I buzzed with excitement concerning the prospect of my own romantic future with the woman I loved. I was delusional to even imagine a life without Her.
