As a child growing up, you look and expect  families to be filled with care, laughter and love. Parents play a big role in this happiness, as it should be expected. But here is a twist to this every day fairy tale life. A child named, Lexus, tries to fight for that happiness and love from her parents but is unsuccessful and starts search in other places.

Lexus has lived her life for many years trying to understand why she was given these parents? Why was she brought into the world? Her parents have been through rough patches throughout her life and has found herself fighting between them for many years. One day her mom decides to get up and leave, moving across the states. She no longer has a loving mother to come home too or to be there to just feel loved. As if this is not enough to deal with, her father is an alcoholic. You would think that he would get his life together because he is now all Lexus has left, but no changes. Instead, he comes home day after day from work drunk. She wishes that he would just sober up and she could be able to have a loving relationship with him. He is supposed to be her role model and foremost, a father. All she knows is that the drinking leads to screaming matches and different women coming in and out of her life. She is fighting this so called everyday life by herself. She gets up in the morning, gets herself together and does her daily life activities, along with the house chores with no one to guide her. Living under her father’s roof makes it seem that this life doesn’t get any better but she is strong!  Lexus feels that she has an empty space in her heart and is searching to fill it.

Unexpectedly Lexus meets a guy, named James, who she thinks the world of. She finally thinks she has found the one to fill her heart with love. This guy, puts a smile on her face like no other. She is finally thinking that this life isn’t to bad. But just as everything seems to be turning out right for Lexus, she runs into a problem. Lexus decides its time for her father to meet this wonderful guy in her life. So Lexus invites him over to hang out for the day but her father isn’t home yet. A few hours pass and her father finally comes home but has been drinking. This wasn’t how Lexus wanted her father to be when he met James. There was no other choice, 
“Hey dad, I want to introduce you to James”, says Lexus.

“HI sir, how are you? I’m James,” putting his hand out to Lexus’s dad.

Lexus’s father of course has been drinking and states, “This boy is not welcome in my home. Have you lost your mind. He is not white. How could you disrespect me like that. I've told you this isn’t right, I refuse to let you date someone who isn't your race, this is unacceptable!” Lexus father yelled in anger. 

As James stands there looking at Lexus.
   Lexus yells back.  “DAD, don’t you get that this isn’t back in the old days, that things are different now, that the views of people dating out of there race is okay? You shouldn't act like this! You don’t even know James, can’t you just give him a chance? This is what I don’t understand about you!” Lexus said, furiously  as she took slow deliberate breaths to get herself back together. 

“I am the parent, these are my rules, and what I say goes, he isn’t welcome here, I’ve told you that he isn’t of my liking! Now thats the end of this conversation!” Lexus father said as he begins to get in Lexus’s face.
“ How can you stand there and say that when you just meet James, you don’t know anything about James. How can you just judge someone by the color of their skin?” Lexus screams while crying. Lexus trys to go on but her father rudely buts in.

“How can you be my daughter and go against what my rules, my beliefs!” Lexus father replied quickly. 

Lexus appalled with the words coming out of her father’s mouth, states “That is very rude father and I can’t believe you can talk to him that way. He makes me happy. Can’t you just give him a chance?”
“There is no changing my mind. He is not white. I was raised that you do not date out of your race and I will continue to instill that in my children,” states Lexus’s father.

Angry and crying, Lexus states, “Fine dad, you are absolutely unreasonable and I can’t believe you don’t want me to be happy.”

Lexus realizes that this meeting was a mistake and nothing was going to change her father’s mind.  Her father bans her from seeing James ever again. She can not believe that life can be this cruel. As upset as Lexus is, she knows that she must respect her father while living under his roof. She respectfully calls it off with this guy but can not believe that she was so close to having love and it could be taken so easily.

Lexus, a strong, beautiful girl has been dealt a life with disappointment. All she seeks is someone to fulfil the empty space in her heart and just as quick as it was filled, it was taken away. Many children in this situation would give up and look for love in the wrong places, but Lexus continues to have hope that one day she will fulfil that space and no one will be able to take it.
