“To the 40, to the 30, to the 20, to the 10 , touchdown Detroit High ! Deon Jackson does it once again folks.” boasted  Richard Sherman, a 10 year Michigan high school football sports analyst.

After the game Michelle Forsett walks up to senior phenomenon and asks, “How does it feel leading your team to a state championship your senior year here at Michigan high?”

Deon replies, “Well to be quite honest with you I had a strong feeling we would go all the way this year, from the beginning of workouts back in early June we were looking strong and not lazy and this championship win tonight proves why coach had us work so hard and were glad he did that.

“SmartCoach  huh ?, he deserves a lot of recognition after this upset, as well as you guys do to, but Thank you for your time i’m sure you would like to go enjoy your victory with your team” said Michelle.
“Hahah sure would! Thanks.” Deon then scurries somewhere into the crowd to enjoy a moment he will never forget with a football team that won’t be the same next year.

Months later Deon is at The University Of Michigan, home to the blue and yellow wolverines.
After his senior year at Michigan High he participated in an open football camp for all seniors and was awarded a full-ride scholarship for his outstanding play in the 7v7 games and scrimmages.

“Hey Deon its mom, I was wondering if you could give me a call when you hear this, ok? Alright love you hunny.“ said Bee, shes been trying to get in contact with Deon for the last few days, which is really weird saying how they usually talk at least one day. Between Deon preparing for his senior campaign also known as senior year (the college kids call it-“senior campaign”) and constantly feeling sick, Bee was quite worried.
More days have passed by when Deon finally calls Bee. He says,
“Mah I am in the hospital , for the last few weeks my hands have been shaking non-stop and my chest been hurting so I came to get it checked out.”
“Well what did the doc say? are you alright ?” Bee said.
“Mom can you just come to the hospital when you get a chance , I don’t want to say it over the phone.” said Deon.

Bee hangs up the phone scrambles around the house for her keys, pocket book, hat, and hesitates to look for her cell phone forgetting it is in her right hand. Bee gets in her little silver Honda Accord and  backs out the driveway at the fastest pace possible. Cruising at a mere 60 m.p.h she gets pulled over by Michigan state police. The officer gives her a warning about driving that fast through a neighborhood. Once she finally arrives to the hospital she says “Could you tell me what room Deon Jackson is in?”

“Maam he is in room C-10 , what your going to want to do is take that first left right there , go up the elevator to level C and his door should be the 3rd or 2nd on the right , you can’t miss it.”

Bee gets in the elevator anxiously waiting for the door to shut thinking to herself. “What could be so bad there her own son couldn’t say it over the phone? Was he hurt severely?” Was her thoughts as the elevator door opened and the wide space of floor C was in front of her. As soon as she stepped foot off the elevator she couldn’t help but notice the smell of cheap perfume, hospital equipment, cafe food, socks, and flowers that patients family members had brought for them. Bee thinks to herself “Why didn’t I get Deon flowers? shoot shoot shoot.” she mumbles under her breath. Finally the 3rd door on the right she see’s Maranda, Deons girlfriend, asleep in the guest chair. She walks in and sees a lot of get well cards, balloons saying “Get better and a  big teddy bear!” In the back of her mind thinking “How could no one let me know my star football player son is sitting in Detroit Hospital?”

“Deon baby what is wrong? I got here as fast as I could.”
Deon gives his mother a hug and cries in the chair , as if he waited to cry because he knew his mother was the best human comforter.
“Mah when I came here the other day within three hours my doctor told me I was diagnosed with cancer.”
Thats when Bee breaks out in tears screaming
“Lord Lord Lord no no please no it can’t be true.”
Deon reaches into hug his mom and says “Mom it will be ok, ima soldier mom I get it from you. God has a plan, he has it under control.”

After a few days Deon is admitted out of the hospital to begin his life as the cancer Deon. Not the Deon who plays football and get’s all the girls.
