That Special NIght
This night could not get any better. We originally had nosebleed seats but arrived early enough for a contest and got upgraded to the Special Prismatic Pit Tickets. We knew the contest was taking place and planned it for months in advance to arrive exactly two hours early not a minute earlier, due to the strict guidelines of the contest. The first one hundred people in line would be upgraded. Following our plan, We got here two hours early, and ran to the door in a race with about 20 other people.
Luckily, we made it to gate with only two people in front of us!
“WE DID IT! ” I said excitedly to my cousin
“CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!?!” Ryan replied
We both let out a sigh of relief. We did it. Our plan worked!
“Oh My God! Is this really happening?!?” I say to my cousin.
“I can't believe this. We got the best seats.” he replies with an added sigh at the end.
After standing in line for what felt like eternity, The arena workers opened the doors and started taking tickets. Walking into the arena, I hear the lyrics of “Hummingbird Heartbeat”, my favorite song by Katy Perry. Between my excitement and the rush of the crowd, I can barely function. I follow the rush of the crowd, which led to merch tables. I was able to see everything and knew that money wasn't a problem, since I’d been saving money for this night 8 months in advance.
Scanning the table and wall with my eyes, I see one of the shirts that I want! It’s black and has the lyrics to my favorite song printed on it. “You Give Me That Hummingbird Heartbeat!” is printed in a deep ocean blue with a silver and green Hummingbird on the front of the shirt and on the back, the shirt reads “Katy Gives me a Hummingbird Heartbeat!” I must get that shirt! Scanning the table for more items, my eyes land on a neon purple hoodie that has the “Prism” emblem in a bright electric blue on the front. Now, all I needed was something from her “One of the Boys” merch collection. Looking at all of the merch, a lot of what I see is “Prism” and “Teenage Dream”, that is until I see a small bag that reads “One of the Boys”. The sign next to it reads, “SPECIAL OFFER! ONE OF THE BOYS $5 SURPRISE BAG! EVERY BAG HAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT INSIDE!” Yup! That’s it!
The people in front of Ryan and I move from the table and head to their seats. We move up to the table and begin the fun!
“Hi! what can I get you today?” a spunky girl with a blue and purple mohawk asks.
“Hey!” I reply! “ Can I the “Hummingbird Heartbeat” shirt, The Neon purple “PRISM” hoodie, the “ONE OF THE BOYS” surprise bag, The bracelet pack, and can I get all 5 of the posters that are up there?” I take a deep breath.
As I ramble off all of the items, she scrambles to get them all together. She puts them into a bag that has a collage of photos of Katy.
“OH MY GOD! I'M KEEPING THIS BAG!” I say out loud.
“And for spending well over a $100 and for winning the door contest, you get a complimentary t-shirt and lanyard. only the people who won the contest will have this shirt, per Miss Katy Perry herself.” she says with a laugh.
“OH MY GOD!” I scream as she hands me all of the items.
“Enjoy the concert,” She says as I walk away from the table.
“You too!” I say back, wondering if she even gets to see Katy.
As Ryan and I walk to through the arena, making our way to the pit, we fangirl about all of the items and special things we have gotten tonight. It wasn't a far walk before we saw the workers who were guiding us to the pit. We walk up to man who was scanning our lanyards. He was a tall 6 foot 5 and was built like a rock. He could intimidate anyone. He scans our lanyards and directs us to the pit.
We walk through a dark tunnel, following the people in front of us, till we see the lights at the end. Walking out of the tunnel, I see it all. The lights, The stage, The pit, The rest of the seats. Its all so beautiful! So much more than I could have ever dreamed of! With the music blaring and the lights shining, we enter the pit!
“EXCUSE ME” Ryan yells as he pushes through the crowd of people pulling me behind him.
“Well thats one way to get to the front.” I think to myself
With my chest against the stage, and my arms resting on the small barrier, I wait. Speechless. This is all too real. I would have been happy with our section 312 seats but this, this was indescribable.
