October 31, 1955, everyone that got their name drawn in the lottery we put in a plane and were flown out to vietnam where we would go out and fight the vietnamese soldiers. We get to the camp where I begin my training and learn how to shoot a rifle and machine gun, we had to go through drills with all of our gear on, adding the gear makes you feel like you are stuck in quicksand, it’s so heavy it’s like carrying around a bag of bricks. We get our dinner and we all sit down and eat and can just think that tomorrow could be the day were this war could actually start. The reason why we are really here is to try and unify the nation of vietnam and stop the communist government of north vietnam from spreading to other countries.
