Characteristics of Music
Many people have their own little thing they do when they are happy, sad or mad. My thing is music. My love for music started when I was in 4th grade and first learned to play the piano and violin then later some viola and guitar. I remember every so often my aunt would come over and slowly teach me everyday until I began to get better, sometimes getting so frustrated because I didn't know the notes. After a couple months of practicing with my aunt we decided to look for a private teacher so I could get even better than i was. We found a Private teacher and began having lessons a couple times a week.
Everyday of the school year I wake up and go to orchestra. 3 out of the 5 school days in a week I wake up earlier than others and go to rehearsal 25 minutes earlier in the mornings. There's always a different mood set when we play a peice. When a slow song is being played the room gets silent as evening with the sun setting down slowly. Everyone moves along with the piece as we play looking up at each other and the conductor exchanging a slight smile every couple of measures making sure we are all together and in sync. Making sure we are stopping and starting all together. Music has so many characteristics. It can give you the impression of being excited or tired after a long day. Music can be so different, so soft and gentle or loud and drowning your room in happiness. The sound of music in my ears makes everything so much better. I can be having the best day ever and by just putting on my favorite song that day will become that much better in just 3 minutes.
Music has taught me so much about having to keep up with practicing and making sure you have everything prepared on time for a performance. Coming home from school everyday doing my homework then grabbing my violin and practicing for about an hour. As I got older I wouldn't have as many lessons which would mean I would have to teach myself the pieces I got from class in orchestra. I would sit in my room listening to the recording over and over again until I got the right rhythm of the song and could play it. Then I would focus on getting the notes correct and having great intonation throughout the piece. Continuing to play the piece until I got it perfect then continued to practice the next day.
Getting into music really changed my perspective on many things and helped me by teaching me to be prepared on time and having everything learned and down by the time set. Going to Orchestra classes and other orchestras outside of school showed me how big of a commitment playing an instrument can really be and showed me that playing an instrument isn't just to know how to play an instrument. You get involved with the music and feel every note as you play each and every note together with the orchestra. Music has and still is having a huge impact on my life.
