It was 6:30 A.M. As I woke up to my alarm, on my phone, going off. I got up to shut it off when I saw a text from Dad saying, “Mom and I left for work early. There’s eggs in the microwave and orange juice in the fridge.” Another text from my mom exclaimed, “Be careful and have a good day!” After I got dressed, I went downstairs to eat breakfast.

I got my breakfast and turned on the tv and changed the channel to the news. I already knew what was going to be the main story… It’s been the same thing for the past couple weeks. It’s about this disease that turns people into zombies, but it’s all the way across seas, like in Pakistan, so I didn’t have any worries. Supposedly, some chemists and doctors have been getting close to a cure which is good news I guess. My friends and I have been talking about it like what the symptoms are, what the quote on quote zombies look like, and what we would do if the disease ever got to the United States.

I finished my breakfast, got my bag and coat, locked the doors, and started walking to school me and my friend Paul Westerfeld walk to school everyday. He’s a short kid. About 5’8 and about 142 pounds. He has black hair, blue eyes, and pretty athletic.

Paul’s house is about three blocks from mine, so it was about a seven minute walk. As soon as I got to his house I got a strange feeling. I knocked on the door three times and all three times there was no answer but a few lights were on. I waited for five more mins and then left.

I was about six blocks away from the school when I heard sirens go off and I watched five police cars drive by and a couple seconds after a firetruck. That’s when i started to feel suspicious and ran the rest of the way to school. I got to the school with twenty minutes until class started. Outside the school were three cops with guns watching the doors with scanners, which I guess were to scan and see if you had the disease. I walked inside and saw the rest of my friends sitting at our table we usually sit at. They were all watching the news I walked up to Paul and asked, “What’s going on?” Paul exclaimed, “Have you not seen the news there’s been a disease outbreak in Saint Louis!” Which is about 10-15 mins away from our small town of Gudberg. The news anchor talked about how the infected were placed in a bio containment facility and that everyone should stay indoors just in case for the next few days. Then over the intercom the secretary announced, “All students need to tell their parents that you will be staying at the school overnight, thank you.”

So, I called my parents told them that we were staying overnight at the school. We ended up having our classes like usual which was science, english, algebra, fitness, and all that boring junk. After class the students were allowed to basically allowed to do whatever so me and my friends all went to the gym and played some basketball till it was supper time.
The cooks made us steak, mashed potatoes, and sweet corn. It was delicious. As I was eating my mom called checking up on me, and asking how everything was going. The typical overprotective parent stuff. I said, “Everything is fine mom we are just now eating and after school we just played some basketball.” She responded with an “ok love you” in front of all my friends i was so embarrassed.

As we were eating all the staff got our sleeping area situated. We stayed with our own grade my grade had to sleep in the the choir room. The room was dark and really big with white brick walls, a tall ceiling, a couple windows, and a radio. The teacher told us to pick a sleeping bag and I instantly took the one by the radio.

That night I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t worried or anything; I just wasn’t tired. So I stayed up till everyone was asleep and then turned on the radio. It was loud enough for only me to hear it so I didn't wake anybody up. I changed the station to my favorite station which played all of today's hits. After about 10-15 mins of music I started to doze off when there was that weird beeping sound when there was like a weather advisory. I turned the volume up to wake everyone up and all i got were grunts and moans.

Then a male with a creepy tone too his voice announced, “This is a message from the CDC, a cure has been produced to help the infected lose their zombie like symptoms and return to their normal state.” The beeping sound went off again and the music returned. The people that did wake up hooted and hollered until a teacher came in to calm us down and everyone went back to sleep.

I woke up that morning to the scent of sausage, bacon, and pancakes. After breakfast, Paul and I talked to our parents and we ended up staying the night at Paul’s house. For the rest of my long life, no other disease came to the world again.
