The Power of Art
I have an art project due tomorrow.
I haven’t even thought about what I will paint.
I pick up my paintbrush and paint a couple of strokes here and there.
Without any particular image in mind,
I let the brush take control.
After three long hours, my painting is complete.
It is a girl writing in a journal.
I’ve never seen her before but she looks beautiful.
She has long, thick black hair as dark as the night.
Her skin is as as smooth as silk, soft to the touch.
Her eyes are as blue as the ocean, but they do not seem as tranquil as they should.
She appears worried and stressed.
I proceed to write a brief description of my painting:
The Procrastinating Writer -
A young teenage girl, hard at work,
completing her writing assignment
that is due tomorrow.
Her tired eyes, and frustrated-
I am puzzled trying to find the right words to describe the beautiful girl.
I stare at the painting for a while.
I feel her eyes following me, but I think it is all in my head until,
“I think the word you are looking for is ‘appearance,’” said the girl in the painting.
Startled, I look at the girl with amazement.
After a few seconds of hesitation, I ask “Did I create you?”
She gives out a little a chuckle and explains that art can open portals to different dimensions.
Unable to fathom the words coming out of her mouth, I ask what she is writing about, to which she responds with,
“A young girl who is finishing her art project.”
