Life.
Bushes scrape against my legs, as I walk down the steep sandy mountain. I hear voices in my head, telling me to never back down. My body shakes of exhaustion and my legs burn, feeling like they are going to fall off. Taking my last stride down the mountain after being stuck here for so long. I have to keep fighting for my friends and family. I need to be there for my mom, she is all alone without me. I’m fighting for my dad. He is keeping me alive, from the sky.
As I walk down the trail, I feel my body trip and I bang my head on the rocky hard sand. My eyes start to close, and my body goes numb. Why can’t I move, why can’t I see?! My body is shut down and I can’t fight anymore. My head spins with thoughts.
“How are you Sam?” a little voice inside me asked.
”Confused” I uttered in my head back to the voice.
“It’s going to be ok,” the voice told me,reminding me of my dad.
My dad always said to me,“Sam, no matter what you go through in life, always move forward not backwards.” He never disappointed me, even when he was at low points in his life. He was the greatest dad anyone could ever ask for.
Laying there, still as can be, and my thoughts eating me alive inside my mind. All of the sudden, I hear sirens, and people crying. I try to open my eyes, and I can. I see my mom standing beside me. I’m alive again.

This piece was inspired by a setting I have visited before and is a setting that a person like the kid in my story could get llost in.
