The Veteran
“It all started in 1967, I was just 18 years when the drafted me. I couldn't believe that out of all the dates they picked me. I've seen things you wouldn't believe, I've done things you couldn't imagine.”
“Would you like to talk about what happened?”
“I don't know if I can, I've seen some terrible things.”
“I only want you to feel comfortable so when you are ready to talk about what happened I will be ready.”
“Thanks doc. You don't understand how much I appreciate you helping me out in my hard times, I just think the PTSD is getting worse, I mean I can't go out on the 4th of July because i'm afraid of what will happen.”
“I know exactly what you’re talking about,Evan. We have allsorts of vets who come to talk to me about what they've seen.”
“The worst part is that i didn't even want to go to Vietnam. I was forced and they call me names and spit on me for doing what i was told to do!”
“What have “They” called you”
“They call me baby killer. I never have ever killed any kids man I just don't understand.”
Evan begins to cry at the thought of everyone around him hating him and not understanding what happened to him.
“What did you see in Vietnam?”
“Where do I start? I had to mow down a whole army of them with a mounted LMG and those bullets are powerful man. I once saw this guy do a complete circle from just a couple of shots. I saw my friends die from people we thought liked us and supported us. Do you know how hard it is for me to trust anyone anymore? You are one of the few I have left to talk to.”
“Honey, Who are you talking to?”
“Nobody.” says evan is an almost crying voice
Even slowly gets up from off of the ground and walks away from the mirror.
“I hate this”
