Dear Diary
Dear Diary,
I’m going to start off with a little about myself. My name is Meredith, but most of my friends and family call me Mer. It’s the beginning of my freshman year here at Amery High School and I’m loving it so far. We moved from the not so small city of Portland, Oregon. I was so sad to move away from my childhood friends, but I was excited for a new adventure. My mom got a new job in Amery, it was her decision to move for better job opportunity.
August 20th, 2017-
I woke up with tears in my eyes, wishing that I could stay for just one more day. Today we will be hitting the road and heading to the east side of Amery, where our new home is located. My mom barged into my room at six a.m. sharp. In her arms she held boxes full of her belongings, mumbling for me to get my boxes onto the moving truck. I crawled out of my bed and concealed my shoulders with my warm comforter as I slumped my way to the kitchen. I found my brother (Grayson but people call him Gray to shorten it up) scavenging through the boxes looking for something to eat. He finally settled on a sealed container of Fruit Loops. I grabbed a granola bar, and headed back to my box crowded room. When I finished checking my phone and eating, I grabbed a few bags to bring out to the moving truck. I saw a few of my friends waiting outside to say goodbye. I began to feel a bit emotional. I went out and see Andrea and Anna, my two best friends. Last summer Andrea, Anna, and I hung out all the time. We have some pretty hilarious memories. One time we went cliff jumping and Anna was extremely scared to jump, so me and Andrea ended up pushing her off. She was caught so off guard. Her scream was the funniest thing. When she got back to the top of the cliff she was awfully angry, but in the end we laughed it off. I’m going to miss them so much. Now onto our 1,783-mile-long journey to our new home.

We are still in the car and it’s been eighteen hours. We left around 10 a.m. and it’s around 4 p.m. the next day. The entire trip will take around twenty-six hours. I don’t know how much longer I handle being in this car. Grayson is being the most annoying little brother at the moment. He is on his IPad but the bad thing about that is he likes to have the volume all the way up, and I can hear it over my music. I’m just going to take a nap and hope that we will be there soon.

For the most part we have settled into our house, boxes and boxes still are sitting in the garage to unpack, but the majority of my things are in my room. In the old house, I didn’t have a room to myself, and in this house I do! No more having to worry about Gray bothering me while I try to sleep, no more tantrums late at night, no more Gray! School will be starting soon, and I’m really nervous. New school, people, surroundings… I just hope I will fit in and find friends fast.
August 28th, 2017-
Tomorrow is my first day at Amery High School. I’m going to be a freshman and a new student at the school! I’m currently freaking out. I just wish I had someone to go through this with me. I hope that high school will be fun, I mean, think of all the things I get to do as a high school student! Homecoming, the huge bonfire, the dance, and the football game. It shouldn’t be as bad as I think it might be.

I had to wake up at six a.m. today in order to be ready by seven to get on the bus. I took a steaming hot shower then blow-dried my hair. I had my outfit picked out the night before. I wore my blue tie-dye shirt, black jeans, and black high-top Vans. I curled my long blonde locks. I heard mom yell from downstairs to come get breakfast. I frantically grabbed my bag, and ran down the steep stairs. The warm smell of bacon and waffles filled the kitchen. Gray, of course, woke up fifteen minutes before we had to leave. We walked out the front door to greet the bus just in time. We piled on with a few other kids from the block, and that was the beginning of a long first day. First of all, our bus is full of screaming little kids, so I looked around frantically for an open seat. There was none. I realized that I had better find someone to sit with fast. I sat with a guy. It was really awkward at first, but a few minutes into the ride he asked my name. The conversation went on for quite a while, because he asked me every question thinkable. Finally, I had a chance to ask him a question. I asked him his name, Kash. Kash, the first victim of my awkward personality.
We pulled up to the school and I was feeling more nervous than ever. Kash and I filed off the bus, and we walked in together. Overwhelmed by all of the people, I stopped. Kash pulled me into the crowd, where everyone began introducing themselves to me. I heard the obnoxious bell ring, and the commons began to feel empty and quiet. I pulled out my schedule and frantically tried to find my first class, which happened to be history. I roamed the halls and finally found the room, 34b. I walked in late to see all new faces but one, Kash. Come to think of it, Kash is my kind of dream guy. He is in football and hockey, outgoing, funny, and muscular. Too bad there wasn’t a seat next to him. I had to sit in the only seat open, next to some guy, with greasy hair, glasses, a plaid shirt, and plaid shorts. Nice combination I’d say.
The class began, and I could already tell that this class would seem never ending. The bell sounded as I woke up from a sleepy daze. The rest of the day seemed to go by quickly and uneventfully. I did meet a potential friend in third hour. She seemed to have the same interests as me: skateboarding, hockey, and boating in the summer. By the way, her name is Breah. The day ended with a ride home on the bus with Kash. I think this could be the start of a really good friendship.
September 5th, 2017-
Sorry diary, I have been super busy lately with school and everything. Kash and I have been hanging out a lot lately. Today he asked me to wear his football jersey for homecoming! Not many of my friends got asked to wear one, so I feel kind of special. The girl I mentioned from third hour ended up actually liking me! Her name is Breah. She got asked by someone to go to homecoming, so we will be going together.
September 9th, 2017-
This may seem weird, but I am now writing this diary entry from a very different perspective. The day was full of excitement and homecoming activities. I went to Breah’s house before the game, then we met the boys at the ice cream shop on the way to the game. Kash had to leave for warm-ups before the game, so we left as well. We ended up winning the game, 50-6. Kash did amazing with three interceptions! After the dance, a little past midnight, Kash and I were on our way home. It was all good until a deer jumped out in front of us, causing Kash to swerve into oncoming traffic. A large truck hit us head on, throwing me through the windshield. I could feel the pavement tearing through my clothes and ripping away my skin. I finally came to a stop, and the world went black. Moments later, I could see the whole scene in front of me, almost as if I was floating above myself. Kash was slumped over the wheel, and the car was totaled. I could see the ambulances making their way to the scene. I saw a woman kneeling down next to my body, she was grasping my hand, but I couldn’t feel a thing. I am numb.
