Yuki, is a girl, where magic exists in her world. Fourteen years old, with silky straight dark indigo hair, dark purple eyes, pale skin bright, and flawless, just like her name, Snow.
A new morning has rolled in, with the sun peeking through the kitchen curtains. Yuki needs to prepare breakfast for the new day ahead of her, as she decides she walks around the kitchen looking through the cupboards for what to choose. Spotting the rice sack; the idea hits her. She grabs the rest of the ingredients that had put her mind and hands to work.
The smell wafted up her nose like a memory, hold on, a memory. She furrows her eyebrows and thinks deeply for a long moment. She can't seem to remember, but she knows it’s really important. After a long thought she realizes she’s not  paying attention to her cooking and drops the thought for another time.
Pleased with herself, she sets the meal down on the island. Rice omelette, though she steps back looking at the two plates with a puzzled look. Hold on, two? Strange. She thinks to herself, why would she make two? She lives by herself in the oriental house that her parents passed on to her. Once again the thought from before hits her, but only to be interrupted by someone bursting through the back door. She hurries over to see the intruder. She carefully turns around the corner to see relief. “Oh, it’s just you.” She states to her best friend who had nearly given her a heart attack.
“Jeez, you lock your front door, but not the back one? When will I ever understand you?” Phine, who is Yuki’s best friend from when she was really little and she’s always been there for her, she was like ten eight year olds put together, that's how much energy she had. She was like the sun itself giving everyone their energy everyday, sometimes too much.
“Oh, I guess I must’ve forgotten I guess.” Yuki replies.
“You said I guess twice, Yuki.” Phine tells her with a laugh. Yuki stares at her with a
blank stare not finding her statement the least bit humorous. “Yuki, you must be getting old fast, I mean look at those wrinkles on your forehead.” Phine tells her.
“What wrinkles?!” Yuki runs over to the standing mirror in her bedroom. She moves her bangs out of the way to see the tragedy that Phine told her. She tries to make out any signs of those wrinkles, but she couldn't. She starts walking over to the kitchen yelling to Phine, “I don’t see anything Phine, how could you see through my--” She stops mid way to the view of her dear friend stuffing her  freckled face with the extra rice omelette that she had created earlier.
“Hey!” Phine whines as the plate is slipped away from her fingertips. She looks at Yuki with a pleading look hoping to break the unbreaking blank glare that Yuki gives her all the time. “Oh alright, you win, sorry.” She surrenders.
“Good.” Yuki tells her. As they finish up the breakfast that she made for the morning they head out to the forest to do their usual duties, patrol. They both sigh at the same time. “Can’t wait till we get our staffs.” Phine tells her.
“Me, too.” Yuki replies with a follow of deep sighs from both of them once again. They walk even further into the Splice Forest that bares unpleasantries, there’s a reason for it to be called that, and another reason why it needs to be patrolled of gruesome monsters that roam the million’s of braided vines and moss in the inky towers of trees, like the scalp past your hair that never receives sunlight. Even in daylight the forest is equivalent to a dark room at midnight, trying to find your way to the bedstand to strike a match for the candle, imagine nightfall. They reach the Abyssal Marsh hovering their lamp lights over the mucky soil surrounding the marsh pond that sunk its gloomy bottom to unknown depths, searching for any evidence of talons, hooves, or paws belonging to the very unwelcome creatures that dwell the equally unwelcoming forest. They scan the marsh with no sign of any creatures. This place is home for the creatures and yet not a single print was to be discovered. It was a good sign of course, but it was just awfully quiet today in the forest. The girls walk over to a tree to lean up against. “Have you noticed anything this morning, Phine? Like something missing?” Yuki says.
“Now that you mention it, wasn’t someone supposed to be at your place this morning?” Phine tells her. Yuki thinks for a long moment.
    “Maybe, but who?” She replies.
“I’m not sure actually.” She states. Both of them deeply searching for a missing puzzle piece in their thoughts that they didn’t know about. Snap. Their heads shot in the direction of the sound.
“Is someone here with us?” Yuki whispers to Phine who’s beside on alert.
“I’m sure it’s just a creature or a small animal.” Phine tells her with obvious uncertainty. They both knew that it wasn’t a creature or a small animal. Someone was there. “Maybe we should start heading back.” She tells Yuki, while pulling on her arm. Yuki wouldn’t budge though. She was staring in the direction of the intruder. Phine looks from Yuki’s face which had no fear growing on it, to the hand firmly grasped onto the sword at Yuki’s side. Before Phine can say anything, Yuki was already gone, and Phine was left no choice but to follow. Yuki runs with wind trying to catch up to the trespasser, but only to halt to nothing there, just a pendant laying on the leafy floor. She picks it up and her head fills with unbelievable pain, memories flood back to her. She falls to the ground, with tears. “Akari.”
