Pool Party Scares

The cool clear blue water beneath us began to ripple as the building outside of the window turned into debris. Taking with the lives of many innocent adults and children. We all watched attentively as the commotion on the street grew louder and louder.

“Oh. My. Word,” Jess exclaimed. “What just happened?”
“I think a bomb went off next door,” Jimmy yelled as he jumped off of his floater raft.
Jeff was next out of the water. Then Jenny. Beau. Cameron. Cal. Shade. Everyone was gone and outside except me. Calmly sliding off of the inner tube, and letting myself sink to the bottom of the deep end. 7 foot of water between me and the top of the pool.
“CJ!?” Shade screamed, “CJ where are you?” SPLASH! Shade was in the water swimming down to get me. A strong arm wrapped around my waist starting to pull me up: it was Shade. Something else grabbed my ankle pulling me out of Shade’s grip. Forcing myself to the bottom I let one hand claw at the thing on my ankle and the other punch the concrete below. SMACK! The concrete below began to crack from the momentum of the punch. As the floor below gave way, my vision began to blur. I swam to the edge of the water pulling the thing on my ankle with me. When I reached the top of the water I was gasping for air, grabbing for anything to hold onto, and gagging. A firm hand took mine and pulled me from the water lying me down on the cool concrete.
I was starting to see spots as Cameron came closer. “CJ don’t close your eyes, stay awake. Stay with me,” Cam whimpered as my eyes slowly closed, “Someone call 911!”
Everything around me began to spin, plunging me into darkness. Beep. Beep. Beep. A. heartrate. monitor. “Where. am. I.”
“CJ,” Cal’s voice echoed in the room. “You’re in a hospital.”
“Why am I in the hospital?” I asked trying to remember what happened.
“You almost drowned in the pool, and Farley never left. She was trying to figure out whether or not the ‘bombers’ had planted multiple bombs throughout the city,” Cal muttered.
“1) Where’s Farley now? 2) When did a bomb explode?” I asked, trying to sit up in the bed. A firm hand on my shoulder stops me in motion. “Bree,” I whispered, as I looked at my brother that was supposed to be executed a month ago.

“She’s in the next room over with Shade,”  Bree said. His hand found mine and held it tight. My heart rate began to speed up as looked at every single feature on his face. “I came back back because someone told me you were in the hospital,” his gaze meet Cals hinting me on who that someone was.
“How?” I ask wondering if this was a dream.
“Magic, I guess.” Bree said smirking at me with a devilish hint. It was at that moment I knew what happened that September day.
Bree released my hand and brought his into view. I watched in astonishment as purple, white, and blue sparks danced to life in his palm. “How did you do that?” I asked blinking in amazement as he closed his palm cutting off the sparks.
“I don’t know. I just found out I could do that the day of my ‘execution’,” he said remembering that horrifying day.

I shot up in my bed gasping at the fact it was all a dream.

I was inspired to write this piece after reading Red Queen by: Victoria Aveyard. I hope that people after reading this article will realize that dreams can be extremly crazy, but not realistic.
