The Last Wish
Once lived a humble family in ancient Greece. Alexis, the man of the family, took care of his sick mother Sophia and little sister Eliz. He worked hard anywhere he could to help his mom and sister, and tried to give them everything they needed. His mom was too sick to even talk. Alexis knew it wasn’t long before his mom passed away and one day it happened. His mom didn’t wake up and little Eliz screamed over and over “Mom wake up, it’s morning. Please wake up!” Alexis heard her say it over and over at least a dozen times, wishing he could somehow bring his mom back to life. It was worthless, he was in shock and wouldn’t react, tear after tear went down his face.
Days passed by and Alexis tried to pretend the death of his mother didn’t hurt him so his sister wouldn’t be depressed. Alexis left every morning, every time he left he would say, “I’m leaving stay out of sight-”
“And pretend I’m not here” Eliz would reply. Alexis would give her a half smile and walk out. Job after job either in the fields or at the markets, he would do something for either cents or a meal. He wouldn’t go back home until he had something to feed his sister. Fight over fight Alexis would give up “Please sir I am humble and need a meal.”
“No get out, go somewhere else” they would reply.
Walking through lonely terrains day and night he would look for a job, realizing he had nothing. He would walk home disappointed and in shame of not being able to give his sister what she needed. He would say to himself, “I ain’t good enough, I’m weak, I’m humble.”
As he walked down hill, he could notice a cloud of smoke coming from the other side of the mountain where his village was located. He ran as fast as he could, and when he got there he couldn’t believe what had happened. He yelled “Eliz” over and over until he reached his home. His house was on fire. Alexis ran inside looking for his sister and yelling “Eliz, where are you? Please say something” but there was no answer. He ran out of the house asking other people in the village “Please help me I’m looking for my sister Eliz, have you seen her?” but no one answered him. A man grabbed Alexis by the shoulder and told him, “We were attacked by the trojans and they took all the young girls. Who ever tried to stop them was killed in brutal ways” he said. Alexis fell to the ground on his knees and couldn’t believe what happened, he has lost everything in his life.
Alexis looked for ways to buy things he would need to rescue his sister. He was going to attack the trojans even if it costed him his life to save his sister. Days passed and he had nothing, he was heart broken. He did not know what to do. He walked for hours thinking what he would do. An old, crippled man who had a dark look in his eyes crossed Alexis path. He made him see his life in a second through his eyes. The old man offered him water and asked him why he looked worried. Chugging the water Alexis turns toward him and asks politely to mind his own business. The old man got on his knees asking for forgiveness. Alexis knew exactly who this man was at this moment. His eyes has a deep message that told him it was his father. Alexis in shock did not know what to do. The old man said, “I’m sorry Alexis I couldn’t watch you and your sister suffer anymore. I hope you’s could forgive me.” Alexis fell on one knee and burst into tears yelling at him with anger he said, “Mom was so sick and you weren’t there to help us, curse you for leaving us behind and now mom is gone and so is Eliz.”
Dad cried, “Eliz? What do you mean Eliz?”
“She was taken by the Trojans.” Alexis says and then ran away from his father not knowing that was the last time he would see him.
Walking through Greece trying to find a clue where his sister was he sees her and cannot believe it is her. He runs pushing a crowd of people not realizing he is in a market he yells “Eliz” over and over. Eliz sees him from a distance. Alexis does not realize that there is a group of trojans all around. At the moment he begins to run towards Eliz he is captured. A trojan takes him out of the market and ties him up. “That was not a good idea” the trojan says. At this exact moment the trojan takes out his sword and puts it on Alexis’ throat. “Any last words?” the trojan says.
“Please don’t let my sister take a bad path. Tell her I love her very much and that our father is alive.” says Alexis. The trojan takes his sword and kills Alexis not replying to his last wishes.
