It was five ‘til four and Athena had just walked through the dark forest with her owl. They had heard an odd noise, nothing they’d heard before. Athena and Faustina, her owl, walked faster. They had thought they’d been followed by someone from the war. When they reached their home hidden in the darkest, creepiest part, both got into the house quickly. From all the energy she’d used Athena went straight to bed.
She’d been fast asleep when a loud noise occurred. It had been Faustina’s cage. Someone had broken in and stolen her. Athena screamed as loud as she could while trying to find her sword. She kept stumbling in the dark feeling all around. She yelled,” I will find you!” but it just echoed. Right after that Athena heard a laugh then the words,” You’ll never find me or Faustina.”
She’d ran outside dodging the tree roots and branches until she got to the end of the forest. Cars passed by. She felt the wind from them go across her face. She heard the loud horns and awful odors blew past her nose. She looked all around then the emotions hit her. She went from panicking to angry real fast. This is where her quest would begin.
As Athena tried to get across the street, she’d failed several times. Each step she took another car had come faster. When she finally made it across, a shadow had appeared. Once again she started to run through the forest. As soon as she had gotten close, she fell on the ground. Her foot got stuck in the tree roots and she could not free it.
After ten minutes of her struggling, she’d remembered her sword that was on her back the entire time. Athena pulled it out, being extra careful to only cut the roots not her foot. She had started to run once again, in the dark, not seeing where she was going or what was in front of her. Her mind told her to stop in her tracked so she had done so and listened. “SNAP!” The sound came from in front of her. Faster… faster... faster she thought as she ran.
As she started to approach the dark figure, she could make out that it was a guy. It’s Apollo. He turned around then walked towards her but she pulled her sword out as fast as a cheetah running towards it prey. Then words got exchanged.
“Did YOU take Faustina?”
“Don’t be crazy, I’d never take her but I did hear her crying for help from that direction.” as he pointed to the right.
She lowered her sword and started to run with Apollo by her side. Finally they’d caught up with the cries but they had faded. It happened again. They had lost track of where they were going. The sun started to come up since she’d been out since four and it was going to be six.
She dropped to her knees and said,” It’s no use! I’ll never get her back.”
“Yes you will, don’t stop now.” said Apollo as her helped her off the ground.
They stood there and argued over her giving up. Finally he told her that if she gave up she’d never get Faustina back and she could never replace her. That hit her hard so she continued to go on. I must find her she thought to herself.
As she walked her foot slipped and she fell into a hole. Apollo saw her and tried to help her out of it. It was no use. He was too late to even have tried to grab her arm. He told her that he would be right back. That he was going to find a long strong branch to pull her up with.
Athena sat there waiting for him to return. She’d finally heard footsteps assuming it was Apollo. When she stood up it was not him but Medusa with Faustina. Medusa laughed continuously while Athena was trapped unable to do anything.
“Looks like someone needs help, too bad my hands are full.” Medusa said as she taunted Athena with Faustina.
Three minutes later, Apollo returned with a long branch. It had been covered in mud and tiny insects crawled all over it. When she went to grab it he pulled it away and laughed. He was all part of the plan. Medusa’s plan. That is why he had been so nice to her. He was tricking her the entire time. Why else would he be in the middle of the forest and then not fall in the hole even though he was right next to her.
Athena was so confused with what had happened. Was this a joke?
“Wha-what are you doing? Please help me out of here.”
Apollo turned his back towards her ignoring her. She wondered what was going on. Finally it came to her. He played her. She tried to get out over and over until she finally got out by climbing. She thought of where she would find Medusa and Apollo. It took a while until the Hollywood sign popped into her head. This is where all the bad people went. Nobody knew why but they always did.
She started off again, this time she would not stop for anything. It was 7:30 and the sun was up. She could finally see where she was going. As she walked she made plans on what she would do when she came face to face with Medusa. Even when knowing she couldn’t look her in the eyes. Every plan she had come up with always had a downfall to it. Since she could not think of one she decided to not make a plan and juts get her owl back as soon as possible.
8’o clock hit and she finally reached the observatory. She saw the sign in the distance and knew she had another long walk a head of her. So of course off she went once again. She was determined. As she walked she felt like someone else had followed her. Due to this feeling she ran. She believed that her feelings were 9 times out of 10 right.
Time flew by as she walked. Finally she started to run, trying to get there as fast as she could. Now that she knew Apollo was part of this she was very upset. She was hurt by thinking she had a friend in him. Instead he’d just tricked her and she walked right into the trap. How could somebody do this? First she got her owl taken and now she lost a friend. This is what helped her make her mind up on what she’d do when she found them. She started to walk to the sign but, no one was there. She looked all around, still nothing. It wasn’t until she turned her back that both Medusa and Apollo came from behind the sign.
“It’s about time.” said Medusa.
“We thought you weren’t going to show up.” followed Apollo.
“PLEASE! Just give her back to me.”
“NO! You took my beauty, now I’ll take what means something to you.”
“Apollo, why are you helping her? What did I do to you?”
He ignored her not saying another word. Medusa started to yell at Apollo all because he’d decided to talk to her. Everyone just stood still. They did not know what to do. While Medusa still had her back toward Athena, she tried to attack her but Athena was not fast enough. Medusa looked in her direction but Athena kept her eyes down.
Finally Medusa got tired of her trying to hit her when she wasn’t paying attention. She started to attack Athena but it wasn’t so easy since Apollo had kept getting in the middle. It was as if he cared for Athena. Maybe he did.
“Get out of my way!” she yelled as she tried to turn him into stone.
“Stop doing this. It’s not worth it.”
This confused Athena. Was he protecting her?? Or just faking it once again? Either was it had given her time to sneak and get Faustina. When she opened up the cage, Faustina flew onto her sword. Apollo needed to find a way to distract Medusa even longer so she could attack her and beat her once and for all. With knowing he would turn into stone he looked right into Medusa’s eyes. He knew once she looked into his eyes she wouldn’t stop until he was completely turned to stone. After she turned him to stone she felt even stronger and actually did forget about Athena.
“This is for taking my owl!” Athena yelled as she turned her sword sideways which mad Medusa stare into her own Reflection. She started to scream because she turned herself into stone. Medusa was no more but nor was Apollo.
After this long day Athena didn’t have the energy to walk home. She put her sword into the ground and Faustina sat on it. She watched over Athena as she fell asleep. When she woke up it started to pour down rain. She knew she had to get back home so she started to head back. Each step she took was in a big, brown, muddy puddle. Faustina stayed on Athena’s sword on her back. This way she wouldn’t be separated from her again.
“I wish this rain would just stop.” Faustina just looked at her.
“Oh what am I kidding, you can’t talk. Probably can’t even understand me.

The time was about 1:00p.m and the rain had finally stopped. Athena was almost back to the forest pushing herself the rest of the way. “Well Faustina, we don’t have to worry about Medusa again but too bad I never got to know the truth about Apollo.”
After a few seconds of silence Athena said,” Here we are. We’re finally home. She took a deep breath and tried to forget everything that happened. Now that Medusa was gone, she wouldn’t have to worry about her for a long time. Even though she tried to forget everything she just couldn’t get Apollo off her mind. Was he supposed to protect her or trick her? She’d never know the truth about him and that’s what drove her insane. She was glad to be home and have her owl back.
