The Demons of Earth
We never wanted this.
Day by day, from seven in the morning to nine at night, we slaughtered them all, as we were told. Men, women, children, elderly, ill, injured...it didn’t matter. We killed them all, so nonchalantly. We were used to it by now, despite how terrible it was.
We didn’t sign up for this.
All we wanted to do was fight for our homeland. And now, even if we wanted to stop, we would be shot on the spot. So we killed, so we weren’t killed ourselves. Over time, we became numb to the blood. And soon after that, we began to enjoy it.
We were innocent once.
All of us. Kids. Happy children, with families and dreams. Of course, everyone is like that at the start. Even the cruelest dictators, the coldest murderers. We are all innocent to start.
Where did we go wrong?
