A Boy Named Jimmy
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jimmy, and he only had one passion in his life…and that was to dance! Jimmy was a pretty short guy, and his hair was always oily and very thin. He was never very good at making friends, which could be seen by the amount of followers he had on instagram: 2. Those 2 followers were his mom and his friend Tyrone. Nobody knew that Jimmy loved to dance, except for his parents and Tyrone. His mother was very supportive of his desire to become a dancer. However, his father on the other hand, did not approve. His father would always make fun of him by saying, “You’ll never become a real man if you keep prancing around like a little girl. ----!!! I’d rather have a girl instead of a son that can’t even catch a football.” This really put a damper on Jimmy’s mood for most of his childhood. The only people that supported his love of dancing, was his mom and Tyrone.
His mother never stopped giving Jimmy words of encouragement, like “Follow your heart Jimmy, and everything will work out perfectly in the end sweetie.” Jimmy really loved his mommy. She always stood up for him, and made him feel like everything would turn out okay eventually. Tyrone was probably Jimmy’s best friend, besides his mother of course, and he really appreciated everything he’s done for him. One thing was that Tyrone could sometimes be a jerk, but Jimmy knew that he was just being tough to motivate him.
Tyrone would constantly tell Jimmy, “You can’t dance for ---- yo! You’re the worst dancer in the school. You’ll never impress Sally with those weak moves. Don’t even bother showing up to the talent show you oily freak.” Tyrone is such a great friend. He really pushed Jimmy to be the best dancer he could possibly be. Jimmy has been practicing for the talent show every single day since he heard about it…which was about 3 days ago. He knew he had to do well, because Sally was going to be watching him. Sally was the captain of the dance team, and he has been in love with her for about 6 years now. Sally only went out with dancers, so he figured that if he showed everyone is sweet moves, Sally would be his for sure. There was no doubt about it in Jimmy’s mind. As long as he followed his heart, everything would work out perfectly in the end, just like Mommy said.
The talent show was only a couple hours away, and Jimmy felt very confident that he would do great. He spent the rest of his time before the show preparing his hair. Since his hair was very oily and thin, you could almost always see his scalp, so Jimmy was trying to find a way to avoid that from happening on stage. He tried every hairstyle he could think of, but nothing seemed to be working. The only thing left to do was to shave his head. So he did. Now Jimmy was ready for the talent show.
The show was about to start and he was very excited to be the first act of the night. All he was waiting for was his name to be called. Jimmy was going over all the different dance moves he knew in head when he heard, “Alright everybody! Welcome to the annual Kroger High School Talent Show. For our first act, we have…Jimmy!!!”
As soon as Jimmy walked up on the stage, he heard Tyrone cheer him on, “Jimmy you suck! Get off the stage man!” Good ol’ Tyrone, always pushing Jimmy to the limit. Jimmy looked for Sally in the crowd, and he saw her. She was looking down at her phone, probably getting ready to record his performance. The music started and Jimmy began his routine. He was doing everything perfect! Every step was on time, and every twirl was executed with absolute beauty. It was going exactly how he had rehearsed it in his room. Once he finished dancing, he waited for the applause, but he only heard maybe 5 people clap and Tyrones encouraging laughter. Jimmy looked at Sally to see her reaction, and all he saw, was her mouth the words: What the ----? Jimmy walked off the stage and realized he had made a complete fool of himself.
