Real and Fake
We were ruled by them. They controlled us. Larger than life figures that disciplined us. But we got around it however we could. Our family, the Chesters, lived in a quaint house with a big, flat backyard. We had five members in our family: Jenna and Bob (my parents), Marcie (my sister), John (my brother) and my self. We played all day in their playing field and always managed to get home without their noticing. And today was another adventure! Marcie and I headed up to the metal park. There, there were long metal pieces with ovals or prongs at the end. We just slide up and down the metal handles and have a lot of fun. It sounds a bit stupid, but you don't live our life; you wouldn't know. After playing at the park for a little while, we decided to head back home. Marcie and I stepped through the door and heard, ¨Time for dinner! We are having beans and rice...cookies for dessert¨. We knew what kind of night it was going to be, mom was in a bad mood. Normally, we have something that everybody likes. But tonight, mom was putting in minimal effort and it was not making any of us content. Mom, dad, Marcie, John and I sat down at our rather small dinner table and ¨enjoyed¨ our rice and beans. After dinner, we had cookies and the kids went to bed, like normal.
The next day, I was awoken to the sound of Mom and Dad arguing about if they were coming near our house today. It was always a worry when there was news that they were coming by, we could be picked up and whisked away from our home and family. So, today was an inside day since they might swing by. I walked downstairs, constantly looking out the windows, and found something for breakfast. I ate a blueberry waffle and went on with my life. I headed back upstairs and peered out the window only to see they staring at me. I froze in my steps and remained that way for what seemed like hours.
I closed my eyes and pretended that this was happening. I had heard stories about them overtaking my population, and I certainly did not want that happen. I slightly cracked open my eyes and they were gone, but was still looking at my sister. I slowly turned my head only to see them pick up Marcie and grab her from her own bedroom. They walked away with their strides and put her on the ground. But, it was not a gentle plop on the ground....they dropped her and her leg shattered before my eyes. They ran away and left Marcie stranded in our yard. As I continued looking out the window, I saw dad run to Marcie and pick her up , wedding style.
I lay next to Marcie in bed and look down at her non-existant leg. Marcie was crashed so hard to the ground. That was it, they had done it now, they (finally) affected my family.
It turned out that they has now gone on some kind of hiatus. But, one of them was still living near us, and I was really concerned. Now, I usually don't believe in superstitions, but this time I knew my feeling was right. They picked up our house with their giant claws and carried it for what seemed like miles and miles, until we were in a world I´ve only seen on TV. Giant brown stems and exponential green, fuzzy blobs atop them. The green fuzz also covered the ground that we were very high above. My house shook like an earthquake and the furniture rolled around on the floor. I felt as if I was going to die at any moment. And then I knew it was over. We stayed there in the cold as darkness fell over the sky. My family and I were shivering in our remotely located home and hoped for the best.
I woke up to see a huge rolling vehicle making its way down the hard street. Someone like them made their way out and grasped our house. They threw it into a huge pile of nothingness. Nothingness surrounded me and my family. We screamed and cried for help, but no one was there. And they certainly wouldn't help us.
I watched out the window as the trash truck pulled up. The man hopped off the and picked up my old dollhouse, he threw it into the garbage-filled truck.
