Salvation
I sat there knees to my chest, arms around my knees, head in arms, shivering. My teeth chattering, fingers starting to turn blue. I smiled for this was going to be much longer than I thought. I closed my eyes tight as I tried to think of a way out. The more I tried to think the colder it got. I was sitting in the corner of a large stone room. It had no windows and no doors. It was completely shut off except for one hole in the middle of the ceiling in which the freezing air came. There was no light source making everything black. But I knew my way around this place like the back of my hand. I've been here for so long that I have forgotten how to interact with human beings. All i wanted was to get out. Was that honestly to much to ask for? I've tried everything you could think of. I've bloodied my fingers trying to climb out. Screamed until I had no voice left to even whisper hoping someone would hear me. But there was no point.
Laughter echo throughout the large room I looked up to find myself staring at me. Long black hair that touched the floor when I sat, and went to my knees when I stood. Pale skin from the lack of sun, skinny, and short. A calm delicate face filled with a small nose, full lips, slightly pink cheeks, and to round it all off crystal blue eyes. I was wearing the same clothes I had been wearing since I came here. A pair of black skinny jeans, a purple tank top with gold flowers on it, and a baggy black jacket that was several sizes too big for me.
A thought hit me then; how could I possibly see this if there was no light source. I looked around and saw nothing at all, it was still dark. I looked back and there I was smiling like fool.
“What do you want?” My voice was barely above a whisper and shook.
“You’ll never get out, you're stuck here forever.” She then burst into laughter rocking back on her heels.
“You don't know that-”
“-yes I do!” She yelled this so loud that room started to shake.
“No, stop you’ll wake it….” My voice trailed off as the creepy moaun slid through the freezing air of the room. Fear filled my small body and I quickly came to my feet, ready to run. The other me followed still smiling. She won't be smiling for long. The moaun came again louder. Then came the sound of nails on a chalk board. The hairs on the back of my neck stood. A large black creature emerged, coming out of the ground. Red veins ran throughout its tall form. Its arms came nearly to its knees. The short legs could run much faster than perceived. Its head had no eyes or nose, only a mouth filled with razor sharp teeth. It lunged. I jumped to the side barely missing its long sharp claws. A loud scream pierced my ears. I turned to see what happened to find the replica of me being lifted into the air and with one snap of its jaws her head was gone. The beast then started to ease its hunger as it eat her peace by peace. I crept to the opposite corner and pressed my back against it. Slowly taking a seat on the cold ground. The sounds of chewing, snapping bones, and the blood falling toward the earth staining the stone floor. After devouring its meal the dangerous beast melted back into the walls leaving the stench of manure and human blood.
I sat there staring into the blackness filled with despair and shattered hope. I would have started to cry then but I have used up all my tears long ago. All I wanted was out, to be free, to live without fear. But that's the thing about life that makes it so hard to understand that the more you want something the further it gets from you.
I slowly raised my head, tilting my head to listen. I heard something barely audible, of in the distance. I stood and slowly made my way toward the sound. Moving with caution knowing the dangers that lay away in the darkness. The sound grew louder with each step until i was standing right under the hole in the ceiling. I looked up only to see darkness but i knew the hole was there. The sound was getting louder now and I could tell what it was. A voice. Calling out a name I haven't heard in a long time, my name. The sound of my name sent chills down my spine and for the first time in as long as I could remember I had sliver of hope.
“Isabel….Isabel…” the voice sounded oddly familiar.
“I'm here!” I called out “please help me.” A small light started to form far up in the hole sending a light glow across the room. The calling grow louder, the light grew brighter. A moan entered the room. And fear gripped me with its cold hand.
I panicked. And the next thing I knew, I was screaming on top of my lungs.
“Hurry! It's waking up! I'm down here, hurry!” A face appeared far up in the hole, looking down at me. It was a boy with curly blond hair and bright green eyes. It smiled at me then with one swift movement the face was replaced with shoes and his body was coming at me faster than I could think. I jumped to the side barely avoiding being crushed. He turned to me flashing a perfect smile.
“I have come to save you.” A massive roar erupted as the beast came running at us. But before I could even scream strong arms wrapped around me and I was jerked into the air. Warmth that was the first thing I noticed. I had been cold for so long that the sensation of warmth was almost frightening.
“Hey, how you doing?” I turned and looked to find him sitting there right next to me. “I saved you from that monster.”
“No” I said “ you saved me from myself.”
