“Riley hasn't spoken to me in a few days and I don't know why. Maybe she's still upset about the night you took me to the movies.” I sighed. Ryan had been talking to me a lot more than Riley. She stopped replying to my texts.
“I’m sure she just needs some time to herself.” He replied. I could hear a mixture of worry and concern in his voice.
“It wouldn't be this long though. I've  known her since we were toddlers! There couldn't be anything I don't know about her.”
“Kat. Everyone has at least something they don't tell their best friend.”
“Riley and I made a promise, Ryan! She never breaks our promises!” tears slowly ran down my face. “I never break them either. So why would she?”
Ryan went to give me a hug, but I pushed him away and shook my head. “No. Ryan please just leave me alone.”
“Don't push me away Kat.” He said softly.
“Well I'm going to. I need time alone, so please just leave.” I snapped.
“So much for those promises.” He muttered.
“What did you say?” I asked.
“Nothing. Don't worry about it.” He replied.
“You're exactly like Riley, you know that?” I said. “Both of you say the same things. You look the same and it's kind of creepy. I could've sworn I saw you wearing a bit of eyeliner the night you took me to the movies. Riley always wears eyeliner. I've never seen her without it since we turned 13. You're the same height as her and you have the exact same eye color. There's no way in hell that you guys aren't the same!” I snapped again. “Even your personality is the same! And trust me when I say I know Riley like I know myself. Maybe even better.”
“All you do is talk about how similar me and Riley are. Well news flash Katelynne, we’re not. There's not even a hint of similarity between me and her! I don't understand why you would continue to drill me and probably her about it.” His voice escalated to a yell.
“I've never seen you and her in the same room, Ryan! And every time I hang out with one of you, the other always says they have to go.” I yelled back.
“We have valid reasons Katelynne! It's not like we're trying to do that to you.”
“And yet you both continue to take a while to reply or not reply at all.”
“Fine. Believe what you want. Don't come running back to me when you find out the truth.” He replied.
“I've already found the truth! What else do I need to know?” I asked.
“Oh my god Kat. Open your eyes! It's right in front of you!”
“What are you talking about?” I snapped. “I've already decided that you two are similar.”
He sighed and shook his head. “I was going to wait and let Riley tell you, but I don't want to fight with you anymore. This has to be explained before anyone gets severely hurt.” He paused.
He's right. There definitely is something I don't know about Riley. I thought to myself before he said anything else.
“This is my hometown where I was born and raised, but I'm not here a whole lot. This is the longest I've stayed here since they took her. Riley, I mean. When Riley and I were born everything was fine, but that all changed when we started going to school. You see, our parents weren't great parents to us while we were growing up. They did things that I don't like talking about a whole lot. I think I got the worst of it but Riley got it pretty bad too. On our 10th birthday we were placed in foster care and they made sure we always had a trusted adult with us just in case our parents found us. Within a year or two, someone wanted to adopt Riley, but not me. She was the only thing I had then. My only family, my twin sister, was taken from me just like that.” He paused again. “I went in and out of foster homes until I turned 18 and they let me go to live on my own. I never stopped looking for her after she got adopted. I traveled all over  the country to find my sister. That's where my band comes in. I picked up gigs with them to make extra money so I could continue to search for Riley. Not too long ago we played here and I met you. That's when I finally found her. I had no idea you two were such good friends so when you told me about her I immediately knew that you had found her for me.” He sighed and looked me. “Now do you understand why we look so much alike?”
I nodded. “I should've known that you two were twins. I'm so sorry I drilled you about being the same person. I just thought that the similarities were too coincidental I did-”
I was cut off by the front door being opened and shut. “Kat I'm really sorry I haven't been replying. I've been trying so hard to find m-” Riley stopped dead in her tracks. “My brother.”
