Cinderella Story
“My dream is to play in the US open and win the US open trophy” said Ryder Mcallister to his friend Jack Johnson.
Ryder and Mike are from Kiawah Island in South Carolina and love golf. It is all they do everyday for the whole day and they are lucky enough to be able to have the Kiawah Island Ocean course as their home course. The Ocean Course is an amazing Golf course that hosts professional tournaments. Ryder Mcallister and his friend Mike were playing a round at the ocean course in Kiawah island in South Carolina. Ryder and Mike wanted to make their daily round a little more fun so they decided to play 18 holes of match play for 5 dollars so a pretty fair game, beside the fact the Ryder was the number 4 Ameture in the world. Ryder is a 0 handicap which means he rarely shoots over par so he's usually under par. Mike was a good player who usually shoots 4 or 5 over but no where as good as Ryder is. Ryder was having a great round during the game as he fired a 4 under 32 on the front nine. The ocean course is one of the top courses in the United States and is known to be one of the hardest courses in the US as well. With Ryder shooting a 32 at that course it proves that he knows how to play some golf. Ryder wasn't doing anything wrong as he was making birdies left and right. Ryder won the match with Mike in the first ten holes. Ryder said joking with Mike said "hey thanks for the competition there Mike"
Mike replied "I guess you're just too good."
Ryder responded "No I just work hard to get good!"
After their round Ryder and Mike went to go eat lunch at the courses restaurant and while they were eating a rep for the US open walked up to Ryder and asked him he could speak with him. Ryder followed the man outside and the rep said
“Hi Ryder my name is Douglas Murray and I am here to talk to you about playing in a US open qualifier. I think you could make some noise if you qualified for the US open so I believe you should try to play in the major championship".
Ryder was in shock as he replied "it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would love to try to play in the US open".
Mr Murray responded " that is great to here I'll see you in one month when the qualifier is held at Arcadia Bluffs".
They said their goodbyes then Ryder went back to eating with Mike. Ryder told Mike that he has been invited to play into the US open qualifier. Mike was freaking out and asked if he could be Mike's caddie and Ryder said yes! Ryder is only 19 years old so this shows how good he really is. After lunch Ryder and Mike went back onto the golf course until darkness started to fall. Mike and Ryder went to Ryder's house and once they arrived at the house Ryder ran out of the car and went to his mom telling he that he has been invited to play in the US open qualifier. His mom was very proud of him but told him that he has to work very hard to do well in the tournament. Ryder and Mike both worked very hard on Ryder's game in preparation for the qualifier. Ryder worked with his swing coach on his swing and mike worked on Ryder’s mental game because that was Ryder’s weakness. Ryder was extremely hard on himself while playing because he wanted to be the best he could possibly be. Mike knew that if Ryder was going to struggle in the qualifier it wasn’t because he was not good enough but it was because his mental game would bring him down. As the qualifier date came Ryder was ready to play and he was excited to play as well. He wanted to make a statement to the people of his hometome in Kiawah that he was indeed the real deal. The tournament day was finally here and Ryder was ready, as he stepped up to the first tee he got really nervous as one of his fears was stepping up to first tee boxes. When Ryder was ready to start his round he stepped up to the ball put the nerves behind him and pipped a drive right down the middle. That was a sight he would get used to seeing that day as throughout the round he was on fire. After the round was over and Ryder signed his scorecard and looked up at the leaderboard and his jaw dropped. Ryder saw his name on the top of the leaderboard telling him that he has won the tournament by shooting a 5 under 67. Ryder was extremely proud of himself that he was able to play and win at such a high level. His parents were very proud of him to as they believe he can now go and maybe win the US open.
A couple weeks have past after Ryder won the US open qualifier and his dad got very sick. One day while Ryder was on the golf course he got a call from his mom saying that his dad has passed away from a heart attack. Ryder was in shock by this news and he burst into tears on the course. He got up and rushed to his house and comforted his mother. The Mcallisters suffered a heartbreaking loss with the loss of a husband and a father and Ryder knew that he had to play in his father's memory for the rest of his playing career. Ryder worked exceptionally hard to try and win the US open for him. As the week of the US open came upon Ryder and his best friend and best friend Mike they wanted to have as much fun as possible. The US open brings in the most popular names in all of Golf and with Ryder only being a nineteen year old kid playing with the best players in the world him and mike needed to get some autographs by their favorite players. As the week went by Ryder was getting more and more serious. Thursday finally came and Ryder was nervous but put his nerves aside and had a great first round by shooting a 2 under 68. He had a post round interview with Sports Center because he is a phenom.
The reporter asked “what was the key to your success today?”
and Ryder replied, “my success was just executing my opportunities I hit a lot of fairways which is very important and I also hit a lot of greens and out myself in good birdie opportunities, although not as many putts fell as I wanted to but I still had a good day and happy with the way I played.”
The next two days went very similar as he was tied for the lead going into the final round. He was tied with Jordan Spieth who was only a year older which was going to make the final round a battle of the young kids. As the fourth round came around Ryder was ready to take down Spieth and that is just what he did. Ryder won the US open by one shot over Spieth and was named the US open champion and he did it all for his dead who was up in the sky watching his son achieve greatness.
