The Untold
“Mom, take me to the mall; I want to get a blouse from Topshop,” said Eva Marie.
“Sure honey,” said Eva’s mom, Paislee. “Oh, and I also need to pick out a dress for Saturday.”
“What’s Saturday?” asked Eva.
“I’m going out with my girlfriends,” said Eva’s mom.
While on their way to the mall, Eva and her mom sang along to the their favorite song, Blank Space by Taylor Swift. Eva and her mom sang along together to every song in eva’s phone.
“So it’s gonna be forever or it’s gonna go down in flames,” sang along Eva and Paislee as they sat in traffic, “you can tell me when it’s over..!”
After Eva and Paislee waited hours in traffic because of a car accident, they finally got to the mall and went directly into Panda Express because they were starving. Eva and her mom go there so frequently the employees already know what they want to order. After they were finished they went into Topshop.
“What about this shirt mom?” asked Eva. Eva always trusted her mom’s opinion in picking out clothes.
“Yes!” responded Paislee. “That would look great with your brown boots.”
Eva and Paislee then went to Starbucks and got a Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino. Eva and Paislee had so many things in common. Eva considered her mom her best friend. She could trust her with everything and could count on her for the best advice.
“Mom what should I do about Brandon? He asked me out on a date to the movies the same day Roxana and Adriana asked me to go bowling,” said Eva.
“Well just invite Brandon to go bowling. That way you can spend time with him and your friends,” said Paislee.
“Hmm, good idea mom, why didn’t I think about that before,” said Eva with a little chuckle. Eva always overthinks things.
It was 12:30 am when Eva had just came back from going bowling with Brandon and her friends. Eva had a great time and went straight to bed.
The next morning, Eva told her mom everything that happened last night. Her mom always listened to her and always had time for Eva. Eva was used to it just being her and her mom since her dad had left when she was just three years old. She doesn’t remember what he looked like or how he was. Eva always wished to meet him, but her mom never talked about him nor told her why he left them. Eva constantly asked her mom about her dad, but her questions were never answered.
It was Saturday afternoon, and Paislee had come home from going out with her girlfriends. Eva noticed that her mom had brought home a man, and it did not look like her Uncle Chris.
Paislee went to the living room, where Eva introduced the man, “Eva this Christopher, my boyfriend.”
Eva was shocked, during her sixteen years of living Eva had never seen her mom bring home a guy before, and she did not like it. Eva was trying to be polite, so she shook his hand and made a fake smile. “Mom, how come you never told me about him?” said Eva with her hands crossed. “I thought we told each other everything.” Eva felt offended because she always told her mom everything. She would never keep a secret from her.
“Well, I didn’t know how to bring it up,” said Paislee.
Paislee’s boyfriend, Christopher, stayed for dinner. Eva said no words during dinner. Eva had no interest in getting to know him. When he left Eva and her mom had a talk. “Mom, when and where did you find him?”
“I met him at work,” responded Paislee, “he was a client of mine.”
“And what did he need you for?” asked Eva.
“He was getting a divorce,” said Paislee.
“Mom, you’re going out with a married man!?” said Eva gasping.
“He’s no longer married. That’s why I helped him,” said Paislee.
“Well I don’t like him and I never will!” yelled Eva.
“Eva, you don’t know him. He’s a great guy,” said Paislee in a calm voice.
“Well I don’t want to get to know him. I want to live with my dad!” screamed Eva.
“Oh, so this is what it’s all about,” said Paislee.
Eva ignored her mom and went straight into questioning. “Where does he live? Where can I contact him?” asked Eva.
“It’s late Eva;I’m tired of arguing. I’m going to bed,” said Paislee ignoring Eva’s questions.
“Mom!” yelled Eva as her mom walked away. “Ugh.”
That morning Eva and Paislee said nothing to each other. Eva decided to take the bus that school day. She was really unhappy with her mom. When she gets home from school her mom usually asks her how school went, but today she didn’t say anything. You can tell Paislee was mad at Eva too. Paislee didn’t talk to her until she asked Eva what she wanted for dinner.
“Eva what do you want for dinner?” asked Paislee.
“Make me enchiladas,” said Eva with no excitement in her voice.
“So are we going to talk about what happened the other day?” asked Paislee.
“What is there to talk about? You got a boyfriend that I don’t like, which you never told me about. So now I want to live with my dad,” said Eva.
“Eva you don’t know your dad. How are you going to live with someone you don’t know?” said Paislee.
“Well, first off, he’s my dad, and second, I would have known him if it wasn’t for you that kicked him out and drove him away!” yelled Eva.
Paislee just kept quiet. She couldn’t believe Eva had just blamed her for her dad leaving and not knowing him. Paislee kicked out Eva’s father for her own good. While Paislee was cooking enchiladas for her infuriated daughter, Eva locked herself in her room.
Days passed, and Eva couldn’t stop wondering about her dad. She wanted to know why her mom kicked him out and why he never came back. Why did my mom kick him out of my life? Why didn’t he try to come back? And where is he now? When Eva got home from school she went to her room and started trying to figure it all out, but she couldn’t. If my mom won’t tell me anything about my dad, then I guess I'll have to figure it out myself. She went on her computer and searched his name, which was the only thing she knew about him. Her grandma had told her his name, and it was only because she begged her for it. There were so many results it was nearly impossible for her to find him, especially because she didn’t know what he looked like. Eva spent almost an hour trying to find someone that could possibly be him, but they were all way too old. Her dad was her age when he had her, so right now he’s probably thirty four years old.
It was Friday, and Eva had just came home from school. On Friday she and her mom usually watch movies with popcorn all day, when they don’t have plans. But today it didn’t seem that way. Her mom came home from work and of course her boyfriend was right by her side. Eva was in the living room sitting on the couch, but when she heard them come in she rolled her eyes and went to her room. “I hate that she still brings him here knowing I don’t like him,” said Eva to herself while shaking her head.
A week had passed and things still didn’t change. Paislee’s boyfriend continued to go to their house, now every single day. Eva and Paislee continued to not speak to each other. During the times he was there, Eva took her mom’s car to Adriana and Roxana’s house, her two best friends. Eva got tired of the same routine and confronted her mom. She walked to the living room where they’re always at and said, “Mom, I am tired of seeing this stranger in the house everyday. I don’t want you bringing him anymore.”
“Eva, Christopher has done nothing to you,” responded Paislee. “Stop being so stubborn!”
“Well, I think I should just go,” said Christopher.
“Yes, please leave,” said Eva.
“No, you can stay, and Eva, stop being so rude. How would you like it if I did the exact same thing to your boyfriend?” said Paislee.
“I don’t want to interrupt or cause any trouble, so I'll just leave. See you Monday Paislee,” said Christopher.
When Christopher left Eva yelled, “Mom he is a complete stranger. You are the worst mom ever! I hate you! And I can't wait until I move out so I can get away from you!”
“Eva!” yelled Paislee, slapping Eva in the face.
Eva couldn't believe her mom had just put her hands on her. “I hate you so much!” yelled Eva. She got her mom’s keys and left running to the car. She drove off and her mom tried to stop her but she couldn't. Paislee tried calling Eva to see where she was going and apologize, but of course Eva didn’t answer because she was so mad at her. Eva was just driving and didn’t know where she was going. Eva was driving at almost 100 mph. Then all of a sudden a big truck came and crashed into her mom’s white Mercedes. Eva was unconscious, and she woke up in the hospital. There was blood all over her hands, and she had the biggest headache ever. She didn’t remember what happened. All she remembered was seeing a bright light when it happened.
Paislee went as fast as she could to the hospital when she got the phone call. She brought her boyfriend and was finally going to tell Eva the truth about her dad.
She got there and visited Eva in her room. “I don’t want you here, especially if he’s here,” said Eva.
“Calm down Eva, I’m here to see how you’re doing you’re my daughter. I care about you,” said Paislee.
“Well it doesn’t seem like it cause you don’t want to tell me about my dad,” said Eva.
“Well that’s also the reason I’m here. I’m telling you the truth about your dad. I think you’re old enough to understand,” said Paislee. “You were just two years old when it all happened. Eva, your dad was a drug addict. He promised me he was going to stop doing them when you were born but he didn’t keep his promise. Your dad and I got in an argument about it; I didn’t want you to grow up with someone like that. He got offended of what I was saying and hit me. He threatened to take you if I tried to do anything. Days passed and I decided to call the cops;I was tired of him. So I called the cops and they took him to jail. The police found out that he was also a drug dealer, so he was sentenced to twelve years in prison. Two years later he was killed in jail.
“Mom, how come you never told me this before?” said Eva with a tear in her eye.
“You wouldn’t have understood if I told you before,” said Paislee.
“Mom I'm so sorry for judging you,” said Eva, giving Paislee a hug.
“It’s okay honey. I will always love you,” said Paislee.
“I’m sorry, Christopher, for not giving you a chance. I promise I will try to get to know you,” said Eva.
Weeks passed and Eva finally got out of the hospital, but the doctor told her she had to be in a wheelchair for about a month. When Eva was in the hospital, Paislee and Christopher visited her everyday, and Eva got to know Christopher very well. They became very close, and he actually proposed to Paislee. Eva now sees Christopher as a father figure and has totally forgotten about her biological dad.
