Ironically
And they hummed some Vampire Weekend song. She didn’t know which one, but she sort oohed along to the general melody and nobody corrected her, so she thought she was at least sort of getting it. And yet, she swore that she had never felt more alone, surrounded by them in the twilight.
An arm wraps around her shoulder, laughing at a witty joke someone made around them. Something ironic and using profound language that just wouldn’t be repeatable in a minute or so because such jokes are only fitting when they come out of a person’s mouth and once they have been thoroughly laughed at by the other equally witty people they are lost to the night like the s’mores and the chocolate milk they were all drinking ironically. (Though what was ironic was lost to her, after all they were only delicious snacks)
