As she walked through the dark, hard wood door, the cold floor on her bare feet felt extremely refreshing. Closing the door behind her, she slowly moved through the ice cold kitchen to the soft white carpeted bedroom. While standing in the middle of her bedroom, a small shard of light slipped through the curtain as did the sound of a small brown and white puppy playing outside the window. She grabbed a warm bottle of water from her side table. As the slightly hot water flowed down her throat a metallic taste remained in her mouth.

The emotionally exhausting day finnaly came to an end. As she slowly stretched into her bed, she could the soft warm blood red blankets on her skin. The amazing feeling on her skin made her melt into her safe place. Her bed was her safe place, it made everything bad go away. Some people may enjoy hot, steamy baths, but that was not for her. The only place she truly felt safe was when she would curl up with the the blood red blanket and melt away. That bed was the one place she could truly escape from all the problems she faced on a day to day basis.

She would become so relaxed laying in her tiny air conditioned room, she wouldn't notice when something would change. You could come up and place a cold orange Popsicle in her mouth and she wouldn't notice until it was dripping all over the place. Only then would she get up, throw it away then quickly return to her bed.

Some people might think she was lazy, but honestly that was the only place that made her feel safe. She loved everything about it, from the deep apple pie scent of that blanket to the puppy playing outside for hours. There was no place like that bed to her. In that space, she was free.
