"This is a story all about how, my life got flipped, turned upside down."

This story is rather tragic, and I hate to say it, but true story. It IS true that texting and driving causes death, and it could cause yours. Please be cautious and careful when driving.

Gina looked over only to see what she wished she hadn’t. Her father was the hospital bed beside hers and it had all been her fault. Guilt rushed through her like a swarm of bees. Every word stinging. She wished she would have just died in the car crash. “I’m sorry Papa” kept repeating in her head, as she heard the worst. sound. ever.

Beeeeeeeeeep.

The nurses swarmed in. She realized she had just killed her Papa. The nurses resuscitated him only for Gina to feel more guilty seeing him go through all this pain. She wondered what she would have done differently. Nothing could’ve been worth the pain her dad was going through. At least not to us, Gina may have thought differently.

Forty-Eight Hours Earlier

“Happy Birthday Sawyer!” Gina said to her little brother when he woke up. They were getting ready for school when Gina realized, she had to drive her dad to work. She hated driving at six a.m. It made her stomach ache. She hopped in the car, turned on the radio, and grabbed her phone. She called her Dad and told him to hurry up. He had finally gotten out to the car, and Gina was ready to go. They drive out of the garage and head for the main suburb road.

Ting!

Gina’s phone buzzed. She looked down to see that her boyfriend, Bennett, had texted her. She reaches for her phone, ever so sly, making sure her father didn’t see her grab it.
“R u on ur way 2 school yet G?” The message read. As she lifted both hands off the steering wheel to grab her phone and reply, all she could remember was headlights.

Present Time

“I love you Papa.” She kept repeating to him. I love you. I love you.

Beeeeeeeeeep.

I love you were the last words Gina got to say to her Dad.

She wept. She realized that whatever Bennett had to say wasn’t important anymore. The only thing that was, was the fact that she had killed her father. She hated that thought, but it was the truth.

Several Years Later.
Gina now operates a Teen Guidance Class that teaches teens the wrongfulness of texting and driving. She tells them her story. She shares her guilt, in hope, that they don’t make the same mistake she did. Her father’s death wasn’t meaningless anymore. It will continue to save lives. May he rest in peace. She was lucky. Gina’s last thing she got to say I love you to her Dad. You might not get to. The last thing Gina would want to tell you is Don’t text and Drive.

-Based of many true stories of tragic deaths caused by texting and driving. It’s reckless and immature. It kills. Don’t do it.-
