With only $20 in my pocket, I  began my trek.
With $20 in my pocket I met a man who needed a meal. "Here sir, $5, that's enough for lunch. Be safe."
With $15 in my pocket I continued my trek.
With $15 in my pocket I saw a child. "Sir would you like a cup of lemonade only $2?"  I bought a glass. "Delicious son, keep up the good work."
With $13 in my pocket I started on my way.
With $13 in my pocket I approached a woman. "Sir please, my son is ill and needs medicine, could you spare $12?"
With $1 in my pocket I arrived at my destination. "Hello Mr.Banker might I make a deposit?"
"Only $1? Sir, you waste my time."
"No sir, you do not understand. This lone dollar remains. See with my wealth I have fed a stranger, encouraged a child, and helped save a life. This dollar is of no worth to me now, it must be preserved."
"Ok sir, if you insist."
*2 years later.
A family stands at my door.
" Hello Judge, I'm sure you don't remember us but we remember you. See you fed me,as my son lie dying in a hospital you gave me a meal. As my son worked to get money for his treatment you contributed. As my wife cried out for help you assisted. My son has made a full recovery and so has my family. You, you pulled us through."
....I stand speechless.
His son,now about 13 speaks up.
"My name is Andrew F.Johnson, founder and CFO of Johnson's lemonade. Your contribution gave me the means to start my company."
His other child comes next.
"At the age of 15 I was stricken with a disease. I heard you helped my mother pay for my medicine, for that I am forever grateful."
He and his wife step up again, she says no words yet we exchange a hug.
"Is there anything we can do to help you?"
"Yes sir, there is one thing. Follow me." I lead them to my garage, and usher them into my car.
We stop at the same bank I went to 2 years ago.
"Hello Mr. Banker, it's time to withdraw that $1."
"Welcome back, I see you brought friends."
" I did, you see these are those who benefited from what came before that dollar. Now that I see that it truly helped I can take it back."
I receive the dollar and immediately hand it back."You keep it, I have more money than you could imagine, but life isn't about the money. It's about knowing that you have impacted a life in some positive way."
I left that bank with nothing in my pocket, but plenty in my heart.
With empty pockets,  I completed my trek.
