It was the beginning of fall. The air began to feel cooler and all the bright green trees began to change to vibrant reds, oranges and yellows. Maria and Maggie were best mice for two years, never leaving each other’s tails behind. Unfortunately, Maggie never liked Claire because she could eat her up with her, sharp teeth and pointy claws. Maria never liked Maggie’s old friend, Sarah because she’s so suspicious and Maria could never trust her because she was always slithering into everyone else’s business.
“I can’t wait to start a whole new year together! I can’t wait to go shopping for the nicest fur treatment for the prance!” Squealed Maria.
Maggie vowed, “Me neither, we NEED to go together, it is going to be so much fun. I want to get asked by a handsome mouse, one that is classy, strong, and fatter than any other mouse in the house. This year is going to be great with you by my side the whole year, nothing can get in our way!”
Little did either of them know that something would soon break them up, they would never be as close as they were right now.
“Sarah this, Sarah that,” complained Maria to her new, old friend, Claire. Maria and Claire had never been the best of friends, they lived in the same house but they never got along.
Claire replied, “I know, I know. I hear her all the time, she never even liked Sarah until this year, all she did last year was complain about how annoying Sarah is...and she wasn’t wrong.”
Maria schemed with Claire, “Hey Claire, I like you. I don’t know why we aren’t best friends already but you remind me a lot of myself and if we teamed up, we would be great.”
Claire thought, then said “I couldn’t agree more.”
After that, the two went out to grab a slice of cheese at the cheesey hut. At first, Claire thought that Maria was just being nice. Then, she saw Maria’s ex-best friend grabbing a slice of cheese with Sarah. It wasn’t long before Claire noticed that Maria was just using her so she wouldn’t be alone. Good thing maria seemed pretty chill and Claire didn’t like Maggie much either.
“So what happened to you and Maggie? I thought you two were going to be best mice forever.”
“Well, mice and snakes don’t really mix but she hangs with Sarah a lot and never has time for me. I know I’m not supposed to be hanging with cats either but, you seem really cool. Plus, Maggie is SOOOOO annoying and I am just noticing this now.”
Claire managed to calm Maria down a bit.
The whole time that Maria and Maggie had been friends, they blocked everyone else out of their lives. They didn’t have too many other friends. So once Maggie left Maria for Sarah, Maria felt very alone and vulnerable. When Maria found Claire, she knew that she had found her new Maggie. But she also learned that she should be nice to everyone around her, not just Claire.
