“You’re kidding right?”  My mom is not dead Jill thought to herself. “How did this happen?” Jill’s first instinct was to tell her best friend Ashley. Jill explained to Ashley what happened to her mom and how she hated the fact that she could not do anything to help her. Ashley seemed like she understood what Jill was going through and Jill was thankful that her best friend would be there for her in this difficult time in her life.                           After about two weeks of mourning her mom’s death, Jill decided to talk to Ashley because she just wanted to tell her about how heartbroken she was that she would never see her mom again. About ten minutes into the conversation Ashley told Jill that she did not want to deal with Jill’s problems anymore and told her to find someone else to talk to. Jill was shocked by what her “best friend” had just told her. Without saying another word, Jill waddled back to her igloo so that she could process what just happened. When Jill thought about one possible thing she could have done wrong to make her think that, all she could really think of was that maybe Ashley was not a true friend. Jill did not want to accept the thought of  Ashley not being a true friend because of all the amazing times that they had together. That night Jill went to sleep because her mind was so exhausted from overthinking the whole situation. When Jill was finally in a deep slumber, she saw her mom Heidi appear out of absolutely nowhere. Jill immediately knew that she was dreaming due to the devastating fact that her beloved mother was dead. “Jill I need you to listen to what I have to say very carefully and try to apply this to the current situation that you are in with Ashley,” Heidi spoke with a soft, yet stern tone. “I know how hard me being gone has been, but trust me, it will get better. I know that sounds cliche, but it really will. You just need to find new and better friends that will support you no matter how long you grieve. I just need you to remember that hard times will always reveal true friends...” Heidi slowly started to disappear and Jill began to wake up. She knew what to do with the message that her mother delivered to her. She knew that she had to tell Ashley that they could no longer be friends. When Jill finally reached Ashley’s igloo, she told her that they could not be friends anymore and that if Ashley kept treating everybody like they owe her something, she would be left with no friends. Ashley acted like it was no problem to not be friends with Jill anymore and it had no effect on her whatsoever.

After two months of life without her mom and Ashley, Jill had a whole new group of friends who befriended Ashley because they knew that she was not worth it. Her new friends tried to give Ashley the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe she just did not understand what Jill was going through. However, if she was a good friend, she did not have to understand everything, but would just have to listen to what her friend had to say and be there for her. There were times where Jill missed Ashley and thought that she could forget about what she did to her but at the end of the day, Jill knew that she made the right choice by removing Ashley from her life.

My fable is based on a moral that I learned the hard way. The moral is; Hard times will always reveal true friends.
