Another Fishtail
In every ocean, there are schools, in every school there is a problem; and she just happened to be that problem. Now we aren’t talking about those ordinary human schools, we are talking about life under the sea...in a school of fish.
Once upon a time, there was a close knit school of fish. It consisted of clownfish, named Isla, Millie, Gubby, Bubbles, Scarlett and a wandering clam they let join the group. They settled along the rosey coral, among the calm waves of the ocean. The fish would get along great, until the clam came along to swim up drama.
She would complain, “Why can’t I get into the sea anemone like you guys?”
Other times she would croak, “Those stripes make you guys look fat.” Day after day, she would come up with a new insult and she began thinking of herself as the leader of fish. The ocean did not feel as comforting to the fish, they began drowning in all of Pearl’s complaints.
One day she groaned, “You guys are as slow as sea horses, catch up with me or you’ll have to carry me on your backs while you swim.” The fish came to a halt among the course rocks illuminated by the moonlight and stared at Pearl angrily. They were fed up with her comments. However, some fish became used to having Pearl boss them around, and became devoted friends to her. With Pearl’s new followers, it became hard to try and get her to join a new school. One day while rogue waves explored the surface of the ocean, Isla decided it was time for her to take a stand even though she might lose more than she bargained for. She spoke, her voice confident to mask the anxiety,
“Pearl, you are a shellfish. All you do is fish for compliments. You are never content, and we think it would be best if you joined a different school.”
“Are you kidding me? I am the only thing keeping this school together,” argued Pearl through her golden shell.
“Actually ever since you joined our school we have been less safe. I think you oughta leave,” objected Guppy confidently swaying her orange striped fin.
“No, we like Pearl,” chanted Bubbles and Scarlett in unison.
“Have you’ve lost your gills?” Millie exclaimed. “You two are the only fish that actually like her.”
“Well if she leaves we leave,” threatened Scarlett malicely. Isla, Millie, and Guppy contemplated the ramifications of releasing Pearl. But they realized that Bubbles and Scarlett weren’t as good of friends as they thought they were. After their realization a vibrant light peaked itself in through the oceans vivacious currents, and they knew they were making the right choice. “We think it’s best if you all find a new school to join,” spoke Isla gently.
“Speak for yourself,” remarked Pearl defensively.
“We’re onboard with Isla,” replied Millie and Guppy.
“Ughhh you guys don’t know what you’re doing!” screeched an infuriated Pearl.
“We’re sorry you’re just a stream of emotions,” chuckled Isla.
With Pearl, Scarlett, and Bubbles departure; Isla, Millie, and Guppy realized that the best things come in three. From then on the ocean returned to its calm self with the sun’s rays beaming through the crystal clear water and the smooth sand swiftly shaking under the fins of the fish.
Moral: Having good friends is better than having lots of friends.
