"A Meow-thful of Regrets"
Open woodlands covered the world, where animals rule--well, the lions are the kings though. The older cub, became more of a prideful lion who chose to practice instead of play and Leo, the youngest, had chosen to play instead of practicing.
Felis Leo, their hunting tutor, had commanded the two to practice sneaking up and chasing after small prey. This was a problem: Leo sprinted after butterflies in different directions. Being good, Lyon left his fool of a brother on his own to go practice like they were told to.
Fields of reeds and straw-yellow grass swaying in tune to the breeze, Leo took a break and began drifting off to sleep. Lyon continued to observe mice. Everyday, Leo wasted time and played for hours while Lyon kept trying to perfect his hunting skills. As time passed, Leo became a better predator than Lyon because he was practicing while playing. Lyon became stuck in his world of perfection which didn’t work out.
Time whizzed by, Leo and Lyon grew to the sizes of adults. Leo, invited their instructor and Lyon to a hunting trip for a dinner feast. Making their way towards the grasslands; right at the next shrub and left at the water hole to get to the all-you-can-eat gazelle paradise.
“I can bring it down in one blow. Don’t interrupt me, Leo,” Lyon held his head high.
“Okay then,” Leo meowed, lifting his paw and shaking it in a “shoo shoo” motion.
Felis plopped down onto his stomach, with his massive paws under his jaw. Meanwhile, Leo had already gotten distracted by a line of ants marching by. Lyon had chased the gazelles in circles a billion times before collapsing onto his side. With a low grunt, Leo nodded happily and frolicked after the herd, bringing one down with a quick slash of the claws.
“Why is he better than me? I practiced harder… I was going to show you how I’m better,” Lyon looked at the ground shamefully and let out a sad whimper.
“That’s because you wasted your childhood and focused on practice,” Felis sighed, taking a chomp out of the gazelle.
“What do you mean?” Lyon meowed out a question, “I practiced more and I took it more seriously! Leo wasted his time playing around!”
“Don’t you get it? It was while he was playing. He got better while he enjoyed his childhood; you simply let your childhood slip away while you did what you thought was studying,” Felis grunted an answer at Lyon, shaking his head in disapproval.
Lyon’s eyes widened as he dropped to all four of his knees, wishing he could go back to the times when he could be free, the times when he didn’t have to worry about anything.
Moral: Enjoy your childhood to the fullest or else you’ll regret it
