All my life I wanted to someday be someone’s hero, someone who goes out of their way to do things for people that I don’t have to. Becoming a postal worker wasn’t something I dreamed on doing for the rest of my life, but every since I started working here things have been going a lot better than I expected. Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces when they see the big bucket truck arrive with something they probably been waiting on for weeks or so. The best part is you get to travel all day to different houses meet different people.

Growing up , my father use to always be out traveling, because he was a big truck driver he never had anytime to be home with his family. But he always use to tell me stories about the different cities he passed through how it went from urban nice houses to dirt roads and trailers with farms all around. Being in the travel industry really takes away time from your family, so that’s how I came to the conclusion to just be a USPS worker. I get to stay in the same area which means I can have more time with my family and work at the same time.
I am very familiar with everything around the area and who I deliver to, so for a few days I been delivering , I noticed that the guy I was dropping off all these packages to was never getting them but yet just letting them pile up at the mailbox. I had a weird feeling, something must be wrong. These packages seem to have some weighted items in them so they HAVE to be some type of important. Was he out of town? Do he know that they were coming? I didn’t have an answer for it but I was determined to find out.
So on October 4th, an mysterious Friday, I decided I was going to this guy front door and see why he haven’t been receiving any of his ordered packages. As I pulled up to his apartment building, I noticed that his assigned parking spot was a handicap spot, also his car was occupying the spot which looked like he was unable to drive because it had a wheelchair lifter on the side. But anyway, I walked up to the door and knocked for a minute, I waited atleast 5 minutes, I heard the TV on in the inside. As I continued to knock I twisted the handle an the door immediately started to open, as the door got wider I spotted a man lying in his chair paralyzed, before I could completely open the door I immediately rushed in and looked for a phone then immediately called for help. Five minutes later the ambulance and six other rescue service cars was on the scene and took the man to the hospital who later on told them he was recovering from an stroke. And his caretaker had been there earlier in the week and hadn’t returned.

On this day I felt I finally felt like somebody, I finally felt like I did something that no one will ever forget. A story that will never end. They call me a hero but in my point of view I was just doing my job which is making the world a better place.
