Goodbye
She looked out over the field of sunflowers, the sun just going down. Her small bare feet lightly moved over the dirt and her fragile fingers ran between the long, green sunflower stems. The flowers surrounded her as she walked deeper into the field. She intertwined the emerald stems in her palms and pulled until the yellow flower plucked off. Slowly pulling her hair back, she slid the flower behind her ear and she was back in 2nd grade.
She was running to her fathers arms, long hair swaying against her lower back. With open arms, her father stood waiting with a smile from ear to ear. Once she reached him, he picked her up and they laughed together. The grown man set his daughter down, taking her hand. Her dress flared out as he spun her around and around. He slowly sat down and looked her in the eyes, “Never grow up princess.” He said, Putting a flower in her long silky hair. “I miss those days,” she stood there alone thinking to herself, “I miss him.”
