He remembered that it hurt. Looking at him hurt. The sunlight of his gaze was too much for the man’s gentle eyes and so, he turned away. Eventually he found a woman who could brighten his world in a more pleasant way, he found that the gentle glow of the moon was much easier for him to stomach. This woman was less spectacular, but equally beautiful. Exciting in a way that never made him short of breath. This woman was everything he could have ever wanted, and so much less.
The ceremony was beautiful, she said all the right things at exactly the right time. He stumbled, but she’s always been there to catch him, and she does. She laughs in a quiet way, easily diffusing any lingering tension and once more he is grateful for this woman who has an answer for every problem.
When she looked at him, it was like staring at an unfamiliar constellation. Brightly shining and so full of all that she had yet to learn, but the woman had always been willing to travel to the ends of the earth for the people in her life, and that’s exactly what she’s wanted since the first time she laid eyes on him. She wanted to know everything about this man, throw herself into his galaxy and get lost in its unfamiliarity. The man before, was like gravity pulling her to him, keeping her grounded. Every attempt at exploration fell victim to his unwavering force. By the time she fell into space, gravity no longer had a hold on her, and so she was lost at sea. She had never been good at being alone and so she became a pirate, taking unwelcoming ships and making them her home. Until eventually she realized that there was nothing left to conquer and she moved on in search of a new adventure. But this man, was one mystery she had yet to solve.
As time passes, the man becomes increasingly settled in his relationship, often forgetting the blinding man. Until one day he is blinded again by another. He is transfixed, no longer blinded instead trapped. A helpless animal ensnared by this unforeseen ploy. Defenseless against the other man’s unwavering gaze. He had never been prey before, but he had never met a predator quite like this either. He is confident and stunning, leaving the man breathless, gasping for salvation in the most enticing way.
Their ceremony is messy and nobody says the right thing. But it’s ok, the man didn’t feel the need to be impressive anymore. They laughed and stumbled together, eventually finding their footing and so they walked down the aisle hand in hand. Eye’s glued on one another, neither one seeing the woman sitting in the crowd. Her own eyes shining, face bright and exuberant, so proud at seeing the man for the very first time. Eventually she has to look away, because the constellations in his eyes are far too bright this close.

This was actually written as an in class writing assignment for our school wide competition. I did not recieve a good mark. I was told the story was unorganized and unoriginal. I've tweaked a few minor grammatical problems but ultimately, have left it mostly untouched. I love this story, and I knew exactly the kind of story my teacher was looking for and I easily could have written it, but I couldn't get this idea out of my head. And, well, I'm especially stubborn.
