The Neglected Opossum
For his whole life, the cross eyed opossum was the subject of ridiculement by many of it’s peers. He had grown fed up of everyone commented about his eyes, so he had decided to go near the human dwellings, where the animals were few. Yes there were humans, but he couldn’t understand them, so he didn’t really mind. A human here and there would mutter something and point at him, but he usually went unseen as no one really seemed to care.
“Doggie!” A baby reached for him, restrained in it’s chair. The opossum, feeling a bit curious, came a bit closer. The small human seemed to be delighted at his appearance. However, a nearby snake grew angry, slithering towards the opossum. The child behind him started to cry as he saw the hideous snake in the lawn.
“Yo man, this ain’t your territory. This my hood. Get your strange a** eyes outta here.” The snake began to hiss, baring it’s fangs in a show of intimidation.
“I don’t care. Fight me.” The opossum had been tired of backing down to other animals. He needed to stand up for himself for once. The child behind him started to cry as he saw
“You just did not… Alright, you dying now kid!” The snake lunged for the opossum, biting into him and injecting it’s lethal poison. However, the opossum merely shrugged it off. He’d been bitten before, and the venom never really had any effect on him.
“Time to wreck you!” The opossum savagely grabbed the snake’s tail in its mouth and beat it around until its grip loosened, and the opossum ripped through it’s scales to deal the finishing blow.
The parents of the child came out, hearing the commotion. The father quickly grabbed the baby, but it was safe. “What a hero… it saved my child.” The mother exclaimed, joyful her baby was alive.
But the opossum had already left, scurrying back into the wilds.
