Doppelganger

I believe in a parallel universe. I believe there is someone out there that mirrors everything I do, everything I say, everything I think. However, this doppelganger that I see is no ordinary person. He may a mirror image of my body, but who knows what kinds of personalities he may have. Is he munificent? Or is he ill-willed? So many questions could be brought up when I fabricate this person in my mind, and yet, I don’t even know what this person’s name. Somedays, he is right next to me, accompanying me in my daily work and buttressing me in my struggles. Other days he is long-gone, living his own life while I struggle in mine. I feel as if he is right behind me at times, but when I turn around, I stare into oblivion. I don’t believe in ghosts, but my clone does. He can see and go places where others can’t. We are bound to this Earth by shackles called reality. Many people are afraid to let loose and unlock the potential of the mind, but what we see and do in our daily minds prevents this from happening. But I know that he is real. And so does he. Someday I wish to meet him and get to know him in a nice bistro, over a warm cup of tea. We would talk for hours at a time all about the things we could never do in the other world. We would talk for hours about the things we have seen in our own world; sights that terrified us, pleased us, desolated us. Perhaps the scariest thing about meeting each other is not knowing how the other will act. I mean, he is my other half after all. Perhaps he will be ill willed, hostile and pugnacious to the point that he will actually be doing me harm rather than good. I remember those evil villains covered in blood and darkness. I am terrified to meet a person like that, so I am reluctant but excited to see his life. Whoever he is, I dearly hope and dread to see him. To know him. To live with him.

In class we had to write about a piece of art. In the piece I choose, two people, mirrors of each other are standing back to back. They are so close to each other but so far away as well. I decided to write a fiction piece about this shadow...
