Beyond Dead
This story is about a man who travels to las vegas for his final stand. He is homeless, and he has been forsaken by his own government as a soldier. This is where the epidemic of a virus outbreaks to the population, and its up to the man or "you" to help save humanity.
Chapter 1: Beyond Dead Introduction
It was a warm day, just like any other in Nevada. The sun burned everything in its sight, and almost gave people a small push down to the ground. You are a simple minded fool that took a turn for the worst. Another average tourist in Las Vegas, a place full of entertainment for adults. The site is full with tall buildings with glowing neon signs, and with multiple windows exposed outside from the hotels that stored those “tourists”, but this wasn’t you. You are John Jackson, a former military soldier for the U.S Army, but you are homeless, and out of money. You sit in the streets, waiting for someone to pour some loose change in a small cup you hold with honor, for you have been forsaken by your own government.
“Spare some change, please I need the money, to drink my sorrows away.” You said with a pleasant soft voice to a wandering tourist. “Sorry I don’t have any.” The tourist said with a terrible lying voice. “I said please.” You whispered to the tourist. The tourist waked away, but you could hear the small coins hitting each other in his pockets. You then thought to yourself, who does he thinks he is and you stood up with pride for the first time in 7 years, and walked towards the man.
You walked towards the man and lightly tapped his shoulder and asked for some change once again. “Listen buddy I don’t have any to spare.” Said the man without no hesitation. You quickly get enraged and punch the man down, and ask him one more time. This time a crowd starts to form up in the background. “Now listen I don’t want any trouble, just let me go on.” Said the man while he got up from the dirty ground. “No you listen to me, I asked nicely, now are you going to give me the change or not?” You said with a heavy tone. “Alright, alright. I’ll give you some change!” Yells the man as he swung at you with his fist punching your stomach. You quickly fall down to the ground, but get back up instantly showing no weakness. “You shouldn’t have done that, I may be a homeless man, but I know how to fight.” You said. You quickly charge at the man tackling him down, the crowd is now watching. You throw your punches and kicks at him with all your might. Suddenly you could hear police sirens going off in your area. One person in the crowd must have called them. You finish the man off with one blow, punching him in the face for the last time. You start to run off in the distance, but it wasn’t long before you saw a police officer with his gun raised up in the air aiming at you. “Get on the ground, now!” shouted the officer with a firm grip on his pistol. You get on the ground slowly while the officer slowly comes towards you. “Alright son, put your hands on your back, and don’t do nothing stupid.” Said the officer while he quickly pulled his handcuffs out putting them around your wrists. You stayed in silence being guided towards the officer’s vehicle and he then started to say the Miranda Rights. He then placed you in the car in the back of it and slammed the door. You sat there waiting as the officer got in and drove you to the nearest police department. The ride was complete silence, only hearing the radio of other police units out on the look outs of a brutal murder. The car came to a halt can suddenly the officer told me these last words that I heard from him. “Listen, stay here and remain calm. I’m going to check out some suspicious activity that went on here.” The officer got out his car slowly and pulled out a shotgun from the back the car’s trunk. That was the last you heard from the officer, and time passed by.
“Officer, officer? Are you there?” You said in a questioning manner. It’s almost night and it felt like you been sitting down in this car for many days though the seats were comfortable at least. As more minutes pass by you came to a thought of escaping the car, but you keep on thinking you’ll get yourself in more trouble with the law.
Suddenly you could hear moans of something nearby in the alley way. “Who’s there?” You wondered in your mind. Then you could see a faint shadow being casted out in the alley way towards the car. Silence filled the air, as the shadow approached much faster towards the car you were in. Suddenly you could see the officer running towards you with a bleeding arm and his shotgun tied on his back. The officer slammed his body to the front door of the car and with sleight of hand he opened the car door as fast as he could. As he entered the car he called in the radio yelling in to the microphone,” I need backup! I have two officers down, there are people biting other people! I don’t know what is going on here!” You could hear the sounds of airplanes going by and police sirens out in the distance. “They won’t answer!” The officer yelled. “Alright it’s just you and me now.” The officer then set the car to drive and drove off towards somewhere. As we drove on, the officer kept on trying to contact anyone on the radio. You leaned towards a windowed and see what was going on. There was heavy traffic on the exit for leaving the city. Suddenly the officer just passed out, and the car driving forward with increasing speeds up to 100 miles per hour. You prayed to God that you hope to make it out alive from this, because there was nothing you could do to escape the car. Suddenly in an intersection you saw on your left window an ambulance truck driving towards your car. The ambulance truck made a crash impact on the side of the car and you were shot forward to the right side of the car.
You moaned over the pain, and the blood that came out your right arm that rubbed against the rough road as you were shot out the car. You laid on the ground in severe pain in your right arm. You managed to get up to witness the final moments of humanity.
