I hear the clash of swords as I charge into battle. I let out a battle cry which is met with a response from my people. We will fight this war until it is over and I will fight beside my people until the very end. I meet the other army roaring, being thrown back by the force of the opposing army. I swing my sword at the closest man and duck as another swings at me. I hear someone yelling my name as my sword is flung from my hands.
"Alexandra? Alexandra, care to join us?" I look up from my doodles and mumble something. Mrs. Wilks raises her eyebrow at me, “See me after class," and goes back to writing meaningless algebraic formula on the board. 'I better make it at least look like I'm paying attention,' I thought to myself as I look at her as she drones on. 'Last class of the day and I have to stay after, of course!' I start doing my homework, the homework I forgot to do last night. "That really sucks, Alex. That you after stay after, I mean." I look up and an met with his sparkling blue eyes.
"Watch out!" I hear as I'm pushed out of the way with a gleaming spear landing just to my left. "I thought you could fight Queen Alexandra," I hear him say jokingly. He pulls me up and catches my eyes with his dazzling blues ones. I smile at him. There is a crash of sword all around us as we duck and weave through people to get to the one person who really needs to be destroyed. We get through the horde of people battling and what we must get through to find her.
"Tell me about it," I say smiling shyly at him. "I thought maybe we could hang out after school for a little bit, unless you have something you have to do." he says warily. "Nothing I know of," I say smiling nervously, “I don't think meeting with Mrs. Wilks should to long if you would want to wait..." I trail off at the end, why did I suggest that he doesn't want to have to wait for me. He smiled warmly," I'll be waiting by your locker." "ok, that works," I smile to myself as I get back to my work.
"I'll go to the right you go around the left, we will merge in the middle and take her down," he says. I smile," Meet you there." We go our separate ways and the farther I go the more scared I become. 'When I meet back up with William everything will be fine, he will protect me from her and we will defeat her.' I smile as I think this gaining confidence as I think about him.
The bell rings and Will smiles at me as he leaves the room with the rest of them. I nervously walk over to Mrs. Wilks desk, “You wanted to talk me," I mumble. "Yes, you have not been getting your work done and don't seem to be paying attention in class. Is everything ok?" she asks me. I shuffle my feet uncomfortably, “I’m fine, just really busy. I'll try and do better." She sighs, "Ok, I guess you can go now, have a nice weekend." I smile, “You too," I rush from the room. 'Finally time to meet Will.'
I wander through the corridors knowing that eventually I must face her, but knowing that I won't face her alone gives me strength. 'Don't worry. Everything will work out.'
I see him leaning against my locker; I hug my books to my chest and smile. "How'd it go?" he asks. I shrug while opening my locker, “She didn't really have anything to say." He chuckles, “Well then let’s get out of here." I grab my bag and close my locker, “Where do you want to go?" He puts my hand in his, "Want to go grab something to eat at the diner?" I bite my lip and smile, "That sounds fantastic. We burst through the school doors and make our way into town.
I turn a corner and see him waiting. "What took you so long?" he said playfully as I got closer. I smile and give him a little shove, “Come on, let’s get going. We are almost there."
"Come on I'll race you!" he drops my hand starts sprinting as the diner comes into view. I laugh and start running as fast as I can. "No fair! You started before me!" I yell after him. When we get to the doors we are both out of breath, “I beat you," Will says teasingly, lacing our fingers together once again as we walk in. I squeeze his hand, “You wish." I sit down in a booth and he sits across from me.
"Right through there, “I say nervously. He smiles at me, “I’m here for you don't worry."
We are sitting, talking and laughing then I glance at the door. Why is she here?
We walk in the door and I immediately see here glaring at me with an evil grin.
"Wow, you're here with her?" she laughs and glares at me.
"You have made a terrible decision being on her side, William," she steps toward us. I try and stand tall.
I look at Will expectantly. He shrinks in his seat, “I actually have some stuff that I have to do at home," he mumbles inching toward the edge of his seat.
She draws her sword and he doesn't do anything. I start to panic. "Draw your sword, coward!" she says at me. I look to him one last time. She makes one clean slice and he crumples to the ground. "He wasn't going to help you, you stupid girl," she laugh maniacally.
I see Will quickly walk out of the diner. "He couldn't get away from you fast enough," she says.
She swings at me, cutting open my arm. I wince, "I don't want to fight. Just leave us alone."
"Aren't you going to do anything?" she says as she spills my water, "Oops." I just want to curl up and cry, or punch her. I feel like I'm going to explode.
I swiftly draw my sword gaining courage. "Don't act so good," she says to me, “you would kill me if you had the chance just like I would kill you." I hesitate for a moment, ‘I don't want to kill her, I just want peace.' I fling her sword from her hands.
I stand up. "I'm done. I'm done letting you control me, letting you consume my life with every rude thing you say. I'm done with you."
"That's where you're wrong," I tell her as I back her against a wall." Unlike you, I do not wish to ruin people’s lives." I hold the sword up to her throat as she stares at me in fear.
She stares at me with a bored expression. "I don't want to ruin your life like you ruined mine," I walk toward her, "I don't want revenge. I just want for you to leave me alone."
"Your problem is that you are never going to change."
"You are never going to become a better person. You're going to end up sad and alone."
"I pity you."
I turn around and walk out the door.
I drop my sword and walk away.
I'm free of her.
