As Time Changes

Here I sit in the corner of a classroom.  I was put here by the teacher, not because I misbehaved like some of the students, but because that was the most convenient spot for everyone to watch me.  Now, I look down at the kids from my perch, wishing that they were looking back up at me.  They used to look at me often, not that many years ago.  That stopped when a new object was introduced, the Promethean Board.  It took over my role in the class, and they even started using him more than they ever used me.  Almost every day he is turned on, and the kids watch him.  They don’t get as excited when he is turned on as they used to when the teacher would tap my power button to start me up.  I used to provide them with pure entertainment, but the Promethean Board makes them do work.  He isn’t just fun like I am, yet he is the one who is used while I sit up in the corner.  He gets the students to watch him while I look down, feeling useless, as I watch the children watch the Promethean Board.  I am now just a useless box perched up in a corner of a classroom, forgotten by all.
